Your contractual location will be Flatford, however you'll also be required to travel to our sites in Danbury and Melford Hall.

What it's like to work here:Reporting to the Countryside Manager, you'll work alongside the two Rangers who are based in Flatford and Danbury. One day a week will also be used to support the Senior Gardener at Melford Hall. There is the opportunity to work across amazing landscapes and habitats including heathland, ancient coppice and woodland, lowland pasture and wetlands, and parkland. You'll have the opportunity to develop your skills and training in woodland management and chainsaws, tractor operation, Tree safety management, and ecological surveys.

You'll be working across multiple sites within the Essex and Suffolk Countryside Portfolio, including Danbury Commons, Dedham Vale and Flatford, Melford Hall and Rayleigh Mount.

What you'll be doing:With your endless love for our work, you’ll help with the protection and care of habitats, wildlife, property and machinery, and your passion will inspire other to love this beautiful place as much as you do. We want you to engage with visitors, making time to talk to them, not rushing away to the next task. As an easily identifiable member of the Ranger team, on your best day you will be creating lasting memories for everyone.

You'll also be aiding the Rangers and Senior Gardener to deliver our conservation and estate tasks such as coppicing, fencing, hedge cutting, pond management, ecological surveys and more.

So whether you’re maintaining our green spaces to assisting with guided visitor walks, through to delivering a wide range of engaging visitor experiences, no two days will be the same. You’ll also share and promote the work that we do here, ensuring special places like these are here to be both protected and enjoyed by everyone for ever. This will see you responding to queries and explaining the value of the work being undertaken. After all, your enthusiasm and dedication could fire the imagination that makes a visitor become a supporter for the rest of their life.

Who we're looking forWe’d love to hear from you if you are:

- Able to demonstrate practical experience in land, conservation and access management to level 2 or have 6 months vocational experience
- Willing to work outside in all weathers and deliver tasks when the weather conditions aren’t ideal
- Comfortable working in a flexible and adaptable way
- Able to work alone or under direction, and as part of a team
- Positive with an approachable attitude
- Happy and willing to learn new things
