We have an opportunity for a skilled Ranger to join our Countryside team in the South Downs East.

Here we manage landscapes, and work with our graziers, farm tenants, partners and stakeholders to ensure that we are achieving the best for wildlife and our visitors, whilst always ensuring that we protect the nature, beauty, and history of these special places for everyone, for ever.

**The nature of the role will require some lone working and occasional weekend working.**

What it's like to work here:You’ll be based at Saddlescombe farm, just five miles north of Brighton. You’ll report to the Area Ranger and work with a small team of staff and the many volunteers who look after chalk downland, woodland and farmland from Cissbury Ring to Wolstonbury Hill.

This really is an exciting opportunity to work in one of the most spectacular landscapes in the Southeast. It will be challenging and hard work, but there is a hugely experienced Ranger team to support and help you develop your skills.

What you'll be doing:You be responsible for the day-to-day management our busy Countryside sites, ensuring that we are delivering our conservation objectives, protecting our important archaeology and providing safe access for our visitors. This will involve leading groups of volunteers and carrying out practical habitat management, rights of way maintenance, fencing and a myriad of other jobs - no week is the same here.

You’ll be using chainsaws, brushcutters and other tools and machinery, whilst ensuring that you are working to the highest health and safety standards at all times.

Our sites receive a large number of visitors so sharing your passion for the countryside will be an important part of the role.

You’ll need to;
- Deliver practical conservation work to protect and enhance the conservation status of the property
- Demonstrate a passion for nature, heritage and the outdoors
- Help create a great place to work, sharing common goal
- Be able to work safely, with risk assessments and compliance with safety procedures
- Experience in a land, access and conservation management
- Competence with machinery and equipment as well as having the relevant certificates required
- A full UK driving licence
