**Job overview**:
We are seeking a Communications and PPI Lead to join the newly established East Genomics Medicine Service Alliance (GMSA).

This is an exciting opportunity to transform the health and care of patients and communities through a fast-changing national Genomic Medicine Service.

The Communications and PPI Lead will:

- act as the lead for all genomics-related communications and patient and public involvement (PPI) for the East GMSA.
- play a lead role in organising, co-ordinating and promoting engagement events and activities including the establishment and running of the GMSA PPI Forum.

**Main duties of the job**:
The Communications and PPI Lead will act as the lead for all genomics-related communications and patient and public involvement (PPI) for the East GMSA. They will plan, develop, lead, deliver and evaluate a communications and engagement strategy for genetic and non-genetic health care professionals across primary, secondary and tertiary care.

These GMSAs are aligned with the Genomic Laboratory Hub (GLH) geographies and will bring together NHS Trust providers and other organisations to deliver the following national priorities:

- Retaining and building patient and public trust in genomics
- Using genomics to improve health and care productivity, quality and efficiency
- Maximising opportunities to facilitate and participate in research and innovation

**Detailed job description and main responsibilities**:
Lead on the development and delivery of a communications and engagement strategy for the East GMSA. This will include increasing awareness of the benefits of genomic medicine and testing among a range of stakeholders, and promoting knowledge and understanding of genomic information among the public.

Develop and deliver a PPI strategy, built on collaboration with regional PPI leads and with patient-facing charities, to create a dynamic, innovative participation plan for all potential groups impacted by the changes to genomic testing in the region.

Identify creative solutions to any problems, developing campaigns and ideas to solve communication issues.

Provide insight, advice and guidance to the East GMSA and patients as necessary and ensure that they are able to respond quickly and effectively to opportunities.

To develop strategies to facilitate patient involvement throughout the East GMSA and to enable the patient voice to be heard, including hard to reach patient cohorts.

Develop policies in relation to genomics communication and PPI.

**Qualifications, experience and knowledge**:
**Essential criteria**:

- Educated to degree level or equivalent relevant experience
- A professional or postgraduate qualification in marketing/communications, or other evidence of continuing professional development
- Experience of developing and delivering communications and engagement strategies
- Experience of working with patients and members of the public in co-design or patient involvement activities
- Ability to work without close supervision, providing specialist advice to the organisation, working to tight and often changing timescales
- Understanding of professional and current issues related to genetics, the NHS, and relevant fields
- Proven ability to work within a varied and complex, networked working environment
- Understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy
- Experience of developing clear, engaging written communications for a range of channels
- Experience of updating websites using content management systems and developing digital content
- Experience of managing social media accounts for professional purposes
- Delivery of communications materials to short deadlines e.g. press releases
- Experience of working to reach under-represented groups
- Experience of establishing and maintaining working relationships with external stakeholders

**Desirable criteria**:

- Experience of commissioning and producing multimedia digital content
- Knowledge of audience mapping, with the ability to identify, research and target potential audiences
