We are looking to recruit Trainee Clinical Coding Officer to join our exciting dynamic and innovative teams at one of our main hospital sites, Colchester or Ipswich.

Clinical Coding is a vital function in ensuring that Trusts accurately report the treatments patients receive, linking to a plethora of local and national comparators including mortality and financial.

Whilst this post starts at band 2, the you will progress to band 3 upon successful completion of the NCCSC. An 18-month competency review should see you attain the relevant competency standards to ensure progression to the post of Band 4 Clinical Coding Officer; Competency levels are set using DS& P toolkit quality assurance levels, through a series of internal audits and checks.

A Clinical Coder who holds the Accredited Clinical Coder status (ACC) by passing the National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ) will progress to Band 5.

While working towards passing the NCCQ exam this post is notsuitable for home-based working. You will need to be able to work from one of our main sites, Colchester or Ipswich hospitals during standard office hours. Upon successful completion of the NCCQ exam and ACC status is achieved, the flexibility of remote working can be introduced

You will be based at one our main hospitals, but should be prepared to travel to either sites for training purposes. You will be expected to undertake the NHS Digital Terminology and Classification National Clinical Coding Standards Course (NCSS) and give a firm undertaking to complete this course, hence the Trust is looking for hardworking, enthusiastic people capable of working within a team and independently with huge interest in their personal and professional development.

You will be trained to abstract clinical information from various clinical documents/electronic systems. This will be done through completion and engagement of on-going clinical coding training programme encompassing use of ICD10 & OPCS4._ classifications and the national standards that define their use. Attendance and completion of the national clinical coding standards course (NCCSC) is a mandatory requirement.

Ensure that your clinical coding skills are developed to ensure a high quality clinically coded record is produced at all times. This will be done through completion and engagement with a programme of ongoing clinical coding training programme encompassing use of ICD10 & OPCS Classifications and the national standards that define their use. Demonstrate significant and/or improving knowledge of anatomy and physiology as part of ongoing training and development.

Demonstrate improving competency and compliance with clinical coding standards through a series of audits and checks; competency levels are set using DSP toolkit quality assurance levels. An 18-month competency review should see the post holder attain the relevant competency standards to ensure progression to the post of Band 4 Clinical Coding Officer.

Compliance with clinical coding national standards and local policies are an integral part of the role and the post holder must ensure that their personal coding reference materials are routinely updated to reflect changing coding practices.
