Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust - Lead for Forward Thinking Birmingham (‘FTB’) is seeking to appoint a Band 5 Research Assistant on a one year fixed term contract.

FTB is the new age 0-25 mental health service for Birmingham. As such, the post-holder will gain applied research experience across a wide range of mental health services for children, young people and adults.

You will be supporting and enhancing the clinical research activities for FTB which include supporting recruitment; clinical research assessments; conduct of research; collection of data; development of audit and/or research projects; training and project work.

Whilst a first degree in Psychology, Nursing or allied profession (at least a 2:1) would be advantageous you would need to have had experience working as an assistant psychologist or research assistant and have mental health experience working with young people or other vulnerable client groups within the NHS. Knowledge of audit, research design and data analysis is essential. Experience of using structured psychiatric interviews such as the PANSS, would also be essential.

There will be a frequent requirement to travel extensively across the wide footprint of the Trust, occasionally further afield.

PROFESSIONAL

This post is primarily responsible for managing the implementation of research being carried out within FTB. The post holder will be responsible for helping meet the recruitment target of studies and will also support neighbouring Trusts’ recruitment and data collection where needed.

To recruit suitable participants to portfolio research studies adopted by FTB

To assist in the implementation of research projects

To undertake data collection, analysis, and production of reports

To undertake searches of evidence-based literature and research

**CLINICAL**:
In common with all clinical psychologists, to receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with professional practice guidelines

To perform routine blood drawing procedures including venepuncture technique using standard eq uipment (training will be provided)
