Job Summary

Auburn University is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to join our team in the Department of Crop, Soils, & Environmental Sciences. The successful candidate will assist with the AU agriculture drone project, conducting field studies, managing drone fleets, and supervising undergraduate and graduate student workers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with project team spray trials and manage drone fleet operations
  • Conduct field studies and collect data on crop production and pesticide applications
  • Manage project progress and data, ensuring timely and accurate reporting
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate student workers in the field, providing guidance and support as needed
  • Attend professional conferences, expos, and tradeshows to promote AU studies and project team
Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Plant Breeding, or a closely related field. Relevant experience in field applied research, ag drone operations, and data management is highly desirable. The successful candidate will also be required to obtain an Alabama commercial pesticide license-D&R category and FAA part 107 remote pilot license within 3 months of employment.

Working Conditions

The position is located in Auburn, Alabama, and requires the ability to work outdoors in summer under high heat and humidity conditions. The successful candidate will be expected to lift up to 50 lbs during field work.
