Glamorgan, United Kingdom Digital Health and Care Wales Full time

As part of our work to open-up the Health Systems Architecture in Wales, we are looking for a Senior Product Specialist. You’ll be joining our new API Platform Team supporting the large-scale publication and adoption of APIs and Web Services through the Apigee API Management platform.

The work will involve collaboration with API publishers and consumers, developing API standards, assurance of APIs from providers and assisting in the establishment of an API community. You will be a key enabler of our API First approach and its principles. You will be driving the delivery of APIs that provide the entry points into our architecture and product sets.

As well as the content, documentation and assurance focus, there will be an opportunity to exercise technical skills within the production and configuration of API products. Ultimately the goal is to make it easier for NHS Wales colleagues to publish APIs and for stakeholders to consume while adhering to API standards, governance, and security; developing digital Healthcare technology in Wales.

As a Senior Product Specialist in the API Platform Team, you will:

- Drive an Overall API-First approach
- Work with API publishers and consumers and establishing an API community
- Assist with the assurance of APIs
- Ensure APIs are documented to a common standard
- Develop and test new APIs and assist product owners with their API lifecycle
- Identify and implement service improvements
- Provide on-call support

This post is fixed term/secondment until 31/03/2025 to meet the needs of the service.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW) is part of the NHS Wales family and has an important role in changing the way health and care services are delivered through technology and data. The organisation supports frontline staff with modern systems and access to important information about their patients, while empowering the people of Wales to manage their own health through digital NHS Wales services.

Working for DHCW offers lots of employee benefits, including flexible working, a competitive salary, 28 days of annual leave plus Bank Holidays and opportunities for career development. We are committed to recognising and celebrating our staff as the most valuable part of our organisation.

Join our game changing, life-saving team and start making a real difference to health and care services in Wales.

**In the role amongst others, you will have responsibility for**:

- Staff management
- Stakeholder engagement including API Product Managers
- Assisting with the formation of a Community of Practice to improve the maturity and consistency of API designs, share proven guidance on API best practices, including knowledge and issue sharing and to put proven practices into policies or guidelines
- Providing adaptive governance capabilities that deliver the right outcomes across control, agility and autonomy against API producer and consumer needs
- Establishing consistent design, governance and security standards
- Adhering to standard and reusable security and runtime policies
- Ensuring technical consistency of APIs by developing and maintaining an API style guide
- Ensuring appropriate documentation for published APIs
- Assisting in the managing the API portal so that APIs can also be consumed in a consistent way
- Assisting service providers to manage the life cycle of their APIs
- Mapping internal (inner) APIs to external (outer) APIs
- Providing API producer access to manage their APIs via a portal
- Assisting in the provision of measurable API metrics
- Classifying and tagging APIs according to their business value to identify API publication priority

Identify opportunities to build efficient APIs throughout the business.
