Role Summary

The Student Community Conduct Officer is responsible for the operation of RCS policies and procedures which relate to student discipline, (including bullying, harassment, and sexual misconduct), and complaints. They also ensure appropriate interface into procedures for other student facing policies such as fitness to study and safeguarding risk assessments.

The postholder will act as a primary contact to support, maintain and develop appropriate student conduct, within the RCS. They will be responsible for:

- Providing the highest standard of organisational management and support for Student

Disciplinary Procedures, Academic Misconduct, Academic Appeals, Student Complaints.
- Ensuring that cases are handled and resolved in accordance with procedures, in a timely and fair and transparent manner, and that appropriate linkages are made as required with other areas such as student support, schools and external agencies as appropriate. The postholder will maintain records for non-academic misconduct policy matters and provide a professional response for initial staff queries.

**Responsibilities**:
The key responsibilities of the role are:

- Operationalize policies and procedures related to student conduct, drafting a code of conduct and reviewing it in the light of lessons learned, as necessary;
- Undertake investigations related to the areas of non-academic misconduct and student complaints, including interviewing witnesses, complainants, and respondents (those students with allegations made against them) and maintain appropriate records;
- Appear before Misconduct Panels and Appeal Panels to present cases;
- Provide support to Student Misconduct Panels and Appeal Panels as required;
- Monitor the efficacy of the policy and procedures, drafting changes as required for consideration by the Quality and Standards Committee;
- Provide advice, guidance, and training about misconduct and complaints procedures to colleagues;
- Facilitate informal methods of dispute resolution where appropriate;
- Maintain an awareness of developments in relevant legislation, case law, and codes of practice;
- Draft responses to requests made under the Freedom of Information Act in relation to student misconduct issues;
- Support the Academic Registrar and Secretary in the drafting and reviewing of relevant policies and guidelines;
- Support the Deputy Registrar to manage the AAS operational risk register item relating to complaints and misconduct compliance.
- Ensure files and all communications are compliant with GDPR.
- Undertake occasional travel and work in unsociable hours as required.

- Evidence of having a passion for working with people and working beyond the confines of the job description.
- Understanding of the importance of confidentiality for students and knowledge of how GDPR relates to students
- A high level of general professional skills: o Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to present complex information to a range of internal stakeholders. o Able to develop and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, when dealing with conflicting viewpoints. o Proven track record of developing and managing complex processes, delivering to strict deadlines. o Strong analytical skills and ability to identify pain-points in order to implement process improvements. o Strong planning and organisational skills, with ability to set own priorities and work to strict deadlines. o Highly proficient in the use of digital systems such as Microsoft
