**Job Purpose**
To be responsible for the management, development and delivery of the University’s Codes relating to student conduct in support of the University’s vision and strategies, and to provide professional leadership to the Student Conduct Team. Serve as the University-wide lead for the implementation of systems and operations for student conduct. Partner with the Clerk of Senate and Senate Assessors for Academic Conduct, together with the student leaders and teams across University Services, Schools and Colleges on student conduct on and off campus, and on related matters concerning student belonging and wellbeing, policy development and compliance. To embed long-term strategies and develop and implement plans to optimise service excellence and efficiency in a fast-developing area of high-risk and high-volume activity.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
- Provide leadership and accountability for administrative procedures, systems and practices related to student conduct procedures.
- Develop and ensure delivery of strategic initiatives for the enhancement of services. Develop, execute and measure the impact of the systems and processes that support the resolution of student conduct incidents.
- Ensure the management of cases optimally supports the well-being of all students involved in a context of potential significant personal risk and where the University’s reputation must be safeguarded.
- Ensure responsive and inclusive operations that serve all students; with accountability for flexible service delivery that supports access and equitable student outcomes.
- Ensure that, as it develops, the Code of Conduct and associated policy and practice continue to support academic integrity at the University.
- Promote University-wide understanding of the associated processes to support effective management of Conduct processes and deter misconduct.
- Remain current on all regulatory and compliance standards related to area of responsibility and contribute to sector development on these as appropriate. Analyse and advise University leaders on matters related to compliance and regulatory interpretation within the area of responsibility.
- Create and maintain collaborative and productive partnerships with: the Clerk of Senate; the Senior and other Senate Assessors for Academic Conduct; the academic community; student bodies’ leadership; with senior colleagues across Student and Academic Services (including, critically, leaders in Student Support & Well-being), and other relevant University Services; the associated administrative systems and services; and shared governance bodies in order to integrate institutional effectiveness and planning efforts for holistic and effective conduct support. In partnership with the Clerk of Senate and other relevant decision-makers, responsible for final decisions with delegated authority where appropriate.
- Act as primary administrative point of contact for internal and external issues and relationships related to student behaviour/conduct and interventions/ sanctions.
- Serve as administrative conduct officer and chair of the cross-functional Student Conduct Risk Assessment panel.
- Liaise closely with leaders in Security regarding general campus safety and with the Equality & Diversity Unit on Gender Based Violence and harassment cases
- Conduct ongoing needs assessment and gap analysis to identify and forecast student and staff needs; direct changes to practices for continuous process and outcome improvement. Organise and, where appropriate, provide specialised training of others involved in conduct-related activities.
- Contribute to the planning and development activities of the Academic Services division and of the Student & Academic Services Directorate.
- Provide strong leadership skills to set high standards, develop, motivate and empower the Student Conduct Team staff to deliver effective, efficient and adaptive services in a culture of service excellence and enhancement.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Deputy Secretary of Court.

**Knowledge/Qualifications**

**Essential**
A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, 10 or 11 (ordinary /Honours Degree, Post Graduate Qualification) or equivalent, including being professionally qualified in relevant discipline
A2 Expert knowledge of the UK higher education sector, including academic governance and policy, student affairs management and awareness of wider global developments in field of operations.
A3 Detailed knowledge of relevant sector structures and systems (strategic planning, management and governance, committee structure, financial systems).
A4 Specialist knowledge of sector academic regulations, policies and procedures, notably for student affairs management.
A5 Good knowledge of relevant legislation e.g. DPA and FoI and awareness of other legislation (e.g. Equality Act) and implications of non-compliance.
