Hours of work: 40 hours per week
**Job Purpose of Building Surveyor**:
To support the Head of Built Environment in the management of reactive and planned maintenance across the estate along with delivering from inception through to completion small to large projects including conservations works, let estate and holiday cottagerefurbishments and visitor infrastructure projects.
**Duties & Responsibilities of Building Surveyor**:
- Lead on the specification and delivery of planned maintenance works to both the let estate, main visitor site and house
- Delivery of projects from inception through to completion including specifying works, managing the tender process and contract administration in-house where appropriate
- Financial management of project budgets including tracking spend, cash flow and forecast spend
- Inspect, diagnose and instruct the remedy for building defects
- Undertake condition surveys and produce reports of findings in an appropriate format
- Undertake basic measured surveys, producing floorplans on AutoCad
- Produce site location, block plans and other plans which may be required on GIS mapping software
- Developing client briefs and procurement of specialist surveys and reports
- Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation including completion of risk assessments and method statements where necessary.
- Ensure best practise of Health and Safety compliance within the Building Services team and wider estate.
- Management of multi-disciplinary teams and external consultants
- Instruct and monitor quality and performance of contractors including compliance with drawings, specifications and local authority consents
- Ensure that all paperwork and certification required for works is fully up to date at all times and that new installations are registered in the correct way and recorded with the Building Services Administrator
- Operate in accordance with Castle Howard Health and Safety Policy at all times
- Any other duties as may be reasonably required
**Person Specification of Building Surveyor**:
Essential
- Education/Qualifications/Training _
- MRICS/MCIOB in Building Surveying or similar with a minimum of three years post qualification experience
- Track record of delivering heritage projects from £1m - £10m in value
- Knowledge & Experience _
- Strong experience of funding, procurement, contracting and financial processes with a proven track record of managing budgets and delivery of projects to budget
- A particular aptitude for, and experience of the restoration, development and conservation of Grade I and Grade II listed buildings, both internally and externally
- Experience in developing schedules of works, specifications, schedules of rates and detailed technical drawings
- Experience of managing and delivering multiple projects concurrently
- Experience in delivery of works in live environments
- Contract administration using the JCT suite of contracts
- Need to understand all aspects of the contracting process, and technical building requirements
- Knowledge of stakeholder bodies and sources of property grant funding
- Knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation and Risk Assessment requirements
