We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced MSK clinician to join our Staff Physiotherapy Service to provide specialist clinical knowledge for Trust staff accessing this service.

This is a permanent 0.5WTE (18.75 hours per week) post and will give you the opportunity to develop your skills in service planning and development, education and training, and clinical expertise. You will need to have excellent organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure in a busy department. You will receive clinical support from one of our experienced 8a Advanced Practice physiotherapists. There is a robust training programme within the department which you will have the opportunity to both contribute to and participate in. You will be supported to continue to progress your career within the field of musculoskeletal physiotherapy.

To be responsible for the day to day running and management of staff within the Staff Physiotherapy Service.

Working within the Physiotherapy outpatient team, taking the responsibility for referrals and treatment of staff members into the Physiotherapy department

To have overall responsibility for the training and development of staff.

To take a leading role in the advanced assessment, clinical diagnosis and treatment of patients with complex and/or chronic presentation.

To provide an effective high quality service.

To provide skilled team leadership and be responsible for service development within Staff Physiotherapy role, using any evidence-based practice and national guidelines.

To implement policy and policy changes in own clinical area and to set and monitor standards of practice.

To undertake evidence based projects, including recommendations for change in practice and to lead in appropriate departmental research in this clinical area.

The post includes involvement in rehabilitation classes and ‘back to work’ programmes where staff are participating.

To ensure appropriate communication links are established and maintained between the Occupational Health, Staff physio service, HR, Manual Handling Teams and Physiotherapy teams including SCT at St Richards and Bognor.

To ensure accurate and relevant data collection is maintained, including writing reports to support future developments of the service

Communication

To be able to lead, motivate and persuade others (including staff and patients) through advanced communication skills, with the benefit of verbal and non-verbal skills, using written and electronic information where needed.

To use communication skills of persuasion, motivation, reassurance and explanation to encourage patients to undertake their treatment programme and ensure understanding of their condition. To communicate effectively with patients and carers to maximise Rehabilitation potential, this includes patients with communication and understanding difficulties, e.g. dementia, learning difficulties, visual and hearing impairments, non-English speaking patients,

To be able to communicate complex and sensitive information to patients, carers and other staff including imparting unwelcome news.

To maintain contacts with local and national clinical interest groups appropriate to the clinical field and to share and disseminate knowledge with colleagues working with the Trust.
