Team Lead Outpatient Practitioner

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated and enthusiastic Team Lead Outpatient Practitioner to join the MSK service at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.
The successful applicant will have advanced clinical reasoning skills and communication skills as well as being able to demonstrate a high standard of clinical leadership. You must have an interest and proven ability in the supervision and clinical support of others.
You will join a dynamic and friendly team with support from other B7 team leads as well as 8a Advanced Practitioners and the consultant physiotherapist. The department has a strong culture of continuous learning and development with regular supervision and training. The successful applicant will be committed to both their own development as well as that of the department.
- To be responsible for the day to day running of the musculoskeletal physiotherapy department and management of staff.
- To have responsibility for the training and development of the staff working the Outpatient Department in which they are currently placed.
- To take a leading role in the advanced assessment, clinical diagnosis and treatment of patients referred to the Physiotherapy Outpatient Department. These patients may have complex and/or chronic presentation.
- To provide an effective high quality service to all outpatients and take a lead role in supervision and teaching of physiotherapists/technicians/assistants and students
- To provide skilled team leadership and be responsible for service development.
- To implement policy and policy changes in own clinical area and to set and monitor standards of practice.
- To undertake evidence based projects, including recommendations for change in practice and to lead in appropriate departmental research in this clinical area.
- To carry out advanced assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a specialist caseload of patients. These patients are likely to have complex and/or chronic presentation and may require extended investigation.
- Use professional and clinical leadership in the development and implementation of a comprehensive training and personal development plan for all Physiotherapy staff.

Communication
- To be able to lead, motivate and persuade others (including staff and patients) through advanced communication skills, with the benefit of verbal and non-verbal skills, using written and electronic information where needed.
- To use communication the principles of personalised care to work with patients to design and undertake their treatment programme and facilitate understanding of their condition.
- To communicate effectively with patients and carers to maximise Rehabilitation potential, this includes patients with communication and understanding difficulties, e.g. dementia, learning difficulties, visual and hearing impairments, non-English speaking patients,
- To work collaboratively and maintain close links, communication and liaison between all staff and people involved in patient care, student education, research or policy development as appropriate and promote good working relationships at all times.
- To assess capacity to give consent, gain valid informed consent and have the ability to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment such as patients who have Dementia, learning difficulties or who are acutely confused.
