Clarke Transport a family business - one of the leading privately owned multi-service transport organisations in the UK are looking for a Traffic Clerk to work out of our National Depot in **Ossett, Wakefield.**

**Job Role & Purpose**

You will work individually and as part of a team, to review and monitor recording of freight damaged internally and received from customers, to enhance customer service, ensuring complaints and queries are dealt with in a professional manner, with efficiency and effectiveness, to minimise business risk and to promote the Company brand, and to ensure that the movement and storage of goods and materials within the decks and warehouse are managed systematically, productively and safely.

**Key Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Utilise the Company inhouse systems to ensure safe and efficient good monitoring and communication processes.
- Communicate in a clear, polite and concise manner with colleagues/customers in all departments as required by the demands of the business.
- Quality assurance (QA) duties, to include checking, monitoring and reporting any identified damaged freight or freight that is deemed to be insufficient for onward carriage to the management team.
- Promptly and effectively resolve customer queries and complaints, in accordance with the Company’s policies and procedures, to promote customer satisfaction and brand loyalty, ensuring full investigation and, where possible, resolution, prior to any handover to another department.
- Actively chase up any outstanding actions, where required, in order to complete the claim / accident report to a gain a necessary conclusion.
- Provide regular feedback to the management team on trends identified in unreported damage, queries and / or complaints.
- Use of all Manual Handling Equipment (MHE) within the warehouse, to ensure safe and efficient movement of goods. Move and collect different pallets of freight, containing predominantly hazardous materials, to load and / or unload vehicles.
- Adhere to schedules, to ensure timely transportation of materials and products.
- Manual handling of loose items in, on and off vehicles and pallets, which can vary in size and weight and may involve some heavy lifting, to ensure pallet management is located within designated area and all products, including hazardous materials, are stored safely.
- Complete a daily pre shift check on vehicle for safety and compliance.
- Open and close curtains on each side of HGV vehicles.
- Preparation of the vehicles for loading and unloading in accordance with safe systems of work.
- Shrink-wrapping goods, or otherwise secure them, in preparation for transport.
- Conduct general cleaning of the warehouse, including the stacking of empty pallets, crates, and storage of other materials.
- Complete relevant documentation on the arrival, departure, movement, and storage of goods, checking trucking manifests and bills of lading, maintaining inventory and track fulfilment of customer orders.
- Weigh and record weights of products and materials as required.
- Ensure any maintenance issues to equipment and / or vehicles are reported promptly to management.

**Health & Safety**

The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others’ health, safety and security as defined in the Company’s Health & Safety Policy and any related Health and Safety manuals or procedures. This will include:

- Attending Health & Safety training when required.
- Identifying risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks.
- Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills.

- Maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards.
- Active reporting of health and safety hazards or potential hazards immediately when recognised.
- Taking full responsibility for your own health and safety and that of others at all times.

- £11.44 (40hrs per week)
- 20 Days plus 8 statutory holidays (28 days in total)
- Additional Holiday after 4 years’ service - Extra Day for every additional year’s service up to a maximum of 5 extra days.
- Death in service - £20,000
