Job overview
Patient Safety is our top priority at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
We have a strong track record in implementing patient safety programmes to improve the safety and quality of care provided to patients. We have an exciting opportunity to work as a member of our ambitious team to improve the safety of patients further with the implementation of the new national Patient Safety Incident Review Framework.
We are looking for exceptional individuals who can demonstrate a real enthusiasm for patient safety. You will bring key organisational skills to Serious Incident investigation and patient safety projects within our ambitious programme of work.

We have an exciting opportunity to work as a member of our ambitious team to improve the safety of patients further with the implementation of the new national Patient Safety Incident Review Framework.

Physical Skills
Essential criteria
- Skilled in the use of IT packages, systems and/or databases to fulfil role requirements.
- The ability to concentrate for long periods of time due to the varied and unpredictable work pattern.
Training & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to degree level or with relevant equivalent experience.
- Strong evidence of continued professional development.
- Knowledge of specialist patient safety, safety culture and human factors and service improvement science.
Desirable criteria
- Qualifications and courses associated with Patient Safety, Leadership and Improvement Management.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Operational line management experience
- Experience of leading and coordinating serious incident investigations/case reviews (i.e. HR, complaints, and internal review of service investigations).
- Experience of systems-based analysis.
- Understanding of the NHS Patient Safety Strategy and Patient Safety Incident Response Framework
Desirable criteria
- Experience of leading difficult and/or emotive discussions with patients, families, staff or other individuals.
- Experience of HSIB.
- Knowledge of corporate governance legislation and best practice
- Experience of working within the acute healthcare setting.
- Experience of developing and delivering training programmes
Communication and relationship skills
Essential criteria
- Experience of working with collaboratively with patients/ service/ stakeholders to improve quality of service
- Demonstrate negotiation and influencing skills and ability to develop and maintain constructive relationships at all levels in the organisation.
- Assertiveness skills and the ability to deal with conflict.
Desirable criteria
- Proven knowledge of national and local patient safety initiatives.
Analytical and Judgement skills
Essential criteria
- Able to assimilate, analyse and present complex problems and data, identify necessary action, make recommendations and ensure actions are taken.
