Senior Ultrasound Imaging Care Assistant

Support the ICA team, deputise for the Ultrasound ICA Team Leader and assist the Team Leader with line management responsibility, regular staff meetings and recruitment of ICAs Assist the Ultrasound ICA Team Leader with rota management to organise Ultrasound ICAs across range of ultrasound scan rooms within Derriford Hospital and peripheral sites, across weekdays and weekends. This requires an understanding if the needs of the service as well as an understanding of the capabilities of the ICA, particularly when there is staff sickness and absence to maintain adequate service provision. To act as a point of contact for the Ultrasound team in relation to ICA staff performance and conduct. To be a mentor and support every new member of ICA team through local induction in order to ensure that each ICA is trained to the required standard for ultrasound service delivery and maintain the competency record for ICA team.
This encompasses various safety aspects required to maintain health and safety of both staff and patients. To have a good understanding of inpatient flow in Ultrasound and be able to stand in as ultrasound inpatient coordinator, when required. To hold a Care Certificate and act as mentor to undertake Care Certificate assessments for new team members. To be able to accurately record patient observations and care given with counter signature from a Registered Practitioner during recovery following specific non-invasive and invasive investigations, reporting any abnormality of the patients condition to the appropriate person.
To become ANTT trainer and be able to assist in ultrasound procedures such as MSK injections and FNAs, and other more complex ultrasound procedures where appropriate. To assist in the care of maintaining skin integrity over pressure points, recognising and reporting all adverse findings to the appropriate person. To prepare notes and documentation for clinics, ensuring necessary medical results and reports are present in the notes. Undertake infection control audits and environmental cleanliness checks, where appropriate, and review results in conjunction with Sonography team.
To be competent to escort patients pre and post minor procedures under the direction of the Registered Practitioner. To provide support for patients in accordance to their needs, chaperone patients during their scans in accordance to policies and procedures. This includes escorting patients to and from the department, and where necessary to assist with dressing and undressing and attending to their needs. Under the direction of a Sonographer, assist with weekly resuscitation trolley checks and undertake daily resuscitation trolley checks.
Ensure all clinical areas are well stocked with room/modality appropriate consumables at all times. To have a sound knowledge of CRIS, SALUS, ICM, Synbiotix and other relevant programmes essential for ultrasound service delivery for inpatients and outpatients To have a good understanding of inpatient flow in Ultrasound and be able to stand in as ultrasound inpatient coordinator, when required. To assist all ultrasound practitioners during patient examinations as required using manual handling techniques and mechanical aids where necessary. To transport patients to and from the Ultrasound department in wheelchairs or beds either alone or with a porter or colleague as necessary.
To be familiar with Ultrasound procedures in order to be able to explain them to patients of all ages and abilities, carers and relatives and report any concerns to the Sonographer. Adhere to all aspects of the regulations pertaining to COSHH, Infection Control, Health and Safety and to observe the local rules relating to radiation safety at all times, thereby maintaining a safe working environment. To have a good understanding of inpatient flow in Ultrasound and be able to stand in as ultrasound inpatient coordinator, when required. To assist all ultrasound practitioners during patient examinations as required using manual handling techniques and mechanical aids where necessary.
To transport patients to and from the Ultrasound department in wheelchairs or beds either alone or with a porter or colleague as necessary. To be familiar with Ultrasound procedures in order to be able to explain them to patients of all ages and abilities, carers and relatives and report any concerns to the Sonographer. Adhere to all aspects of the regulations pertaining to COSHH, Infection Control, Health and Safety and to observe the local rules relating to radiation safety at all times, thereby maintaining a safe working environment. Assess any infection risks and employ necessary precautions.
