Witham & Humber Internal Drainage Boards consist of North East Lindsey, Witham First District, Witham Third District and Upper Witham IDBs. A group of 4 independent statutory Land Drainage Boards’, Water Levels and Flood Risk Management Authorities working collectively under a partnership agreement.
The Boards primary role is providing front line drainage and flood protection service to community of Lincolnshire. Maintaining adopted watercourses, pumping stations, protecting land, critical infrastructure and property from flooding and ensure good land drainage.
**OPPORTUNITIES**:Witham and Humber Drainage Boards have a variety of opportunities within the four Boards. We are looking for experienced operator of **Tractor and Flail **with the willingness to learn Tracked and Wheeled Excavator above and below 10 tonnes. along with experienced Handwork operative. The position will be employed by Witham First District Internal Drainage Board based at Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire.
The role will have responsibility to work across all surrounding areas within the Witham First District. Mainly working across 1 of the 4 drainage boards, though you are expected to undertake duties at any location in and around the 4 Boards’ drainage districts, you will be provided with a works vehicle.
**SALARY**: Full Time per annum £29,292.00 (ADA White Book SCP 15)/Hourly rate £14.79/Gross pay per month £2,441.00.
**WORKING HOURS**: Working hours will be based around a 76-hour working fortnight, with alternate non-working Fridays.
**OVERTIME**: Opportunities for non-contractual/non-guaranteed overtime is available during the maintenance season and periods of significant and/or prolonged rainfall. The maintenance season starts from the beginning of British Summertime to the end of British Summertime. You are required to work significant/regular overtime during those periods. You must be willing and available to respond swiftly to call-out requests when required.
**THE CANDIDATE**: If you are a Skilled and flexible operator of plant and equipment and can offer a wide collection of skills required to undertake a diverse range of land drainage seasonal duties, weed cutting, desilting, bushing/chipping of trees and heavy manual hand labour.
The post-holder will be responsible, flexible and adaptable to working across the wider Boards. You must hold a full clean driving licence, have good understanding of health and safety at work and proficient understanding of the English language are essential.
We are seeking an individual who is self-motivated, flexible, capable of lone working, as well as working as part of an established team. You must be willing to adapt your skill set to a broad range of seasonal operations, assist with a diverse range of land drainage duties and available to respond to extensive rainfall and extreme weather call-out requests within the districts.
These are essential and pivotal roles which enables the Boards to achieve their organisational goals and objectives. You are required to work in harmony, supporting colleagues and becoming a key member of an effective team. You will uphold and comply with the organisations’ policies and the law in relation to Health and Safety, Financial Regulations, Equal Opportunities, Data Protection and other adopted Policies and Procedures. The post holder will also undertake other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the status of the post as may from time to time be required by the wider team.
**Key Areas of Responsibility (role dependant)**
- Operating Tractor and Flail combination
- Operating a range of heavy machinery e.g., 10 tonne above and below excavators
- Operating machinery with a variety of attachments
- Handwork
- Chainsaw work
- Strimming of banks, water courses, pumping station compounds, depot
- Operating a chipper
- Bank slip repairs.
- Remove obstructions from culverts, grills and runs.
- Building maintenance
- Assisting others in the workshop duties
- Develop and maintain excellent team and wider team communication systems.
- Day to day management and maintenance of machinery and operating equipment
- Manage, maintain, and review record keeping in electronic and paper format.
- Ad-hoc projects and tasks as required by the Director of Operations and Operations Supervisor and Foreman
- Respond to public enquires in a professional manner.
**Key Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Experience essential for the role of Land Drainage Operative**:
- Full clean UK Driving Licence
- Proven experience operating a Tractor Flail/Excavator
- Experience of operating other plant and machinery i.e., Excavator, telescopic forklift, chainsaw, strimmer
- Experience of Health and Safety at work
- Due to the physical demands of the job, you must consider yourself physically fit and in general good health
