The MEP (Managing Emotions Programme) sits within the increased offer to the primary care networks in West Berkshire for personality disorder difficulties. The MEP programme run by the national mental health charity Together for Mental Wellbeing aims to address the needs of people who currently fall between gaps in provision of psychological services for people with emotional regulation difficulties. It consists of 4 different psychoeducational courses at increasing level of complexity.

The 4 courses are available to individuals under primary care services, aged 18 and over, who are registered with a GP in West Berkshire and who have been identified as having difficulties with regulating and managing their emotions but have overall routine psychological needs and low levels of risk to themselves or others. They do not require a diagnosis of personality disorder to be referred to the programme.

The Lived Experience Group Facilitator is a key role for the MEP. The purpose of this role is to coordinate, support and help facilitate a programme of 4 managing emotions workshops that supports people who have challenges regulating and managing their emotions whilst providing psychoeducation. The courses will be run both face to face in West Berkshire and online.

The Lived Experience Group facilitator will need to be able to both work from home, as well as travel across all localities in Berkshire. You will have regular supervision and support in this role.

**Course description and key responsibilities**

4 different new evidence-based psychologically informed courses to help people in the community with difficulties in managing and regulating their emotions
- Align by principles of “Easy in, Easy out” access to mental health support for students, depending on need.
- To deliver 4 psychoeducational courses of varying lengths and intensities as described here below:
Ø Course 1: 2.5 hrs workshop on introduction to understanding emotion

Ø Course 2: 4 x 2 hr weekly group on Introduction to managing emotion:
Ø Course 3: 8 x 2 hr weekly group on managing emotions

Ø Course 4: Carer’s course

**Course outcomes**
- Co-produced with people with lived experience of difficulties associated with a personality disorder/ complex emotional needs
- Provides streamlined access to psychoeducational interventions.

Rooted in Voluntary sector/ recovery college
- Values lived experience as a means to understand distress and to collectively identify helpful strategies.
- Values the shared identity of lived experience and provides to produce and deliver all of the courses alongside a Peer Mentor.
- Inclusion and a feeling of empowerment and connectedness through the use of lived experience and peer-mentors/trainers.
- Looks to provide a reduction in distress, whilst improving quality of life.

**Key working practices**
- To co-facilitate the MEP groups throughout the week, for individuals who may experience some of the difficulties associated with the diagnosis of ‘personality disorder’.
- To work with the team on advertising, outreach and training in order to raise awareness of MEP across the county and reach potential new members who would benefit from our service.
- To engage in regular team clinical supervision to continually learn, grow and evolve within the role.
- To draw upon personal lived experience of difficulties associated with the diagnosis of ‘personality disorder’, to support the development and knowledge of people accessing the service.
- To work alongside MEP Group Facilitators and deliver regular MEP groups either face to face or online.
- To work from a reflective and compassionate viewpoint, whilst retaining self-awareness around the impacts of working from a Lived Experience perspective.
- To follow the protocols and guidelines for effective working in line with Together’s policies and procedures, as well as MEP specific policy.
- To ensure that any potential risk is being assessed and a team decision is followed.
- To report any areas of concern to the senior team, in line with Together’s Risk and Safeguarding Management Policy.
- To assist people in understanding their rights and choices within the service.
- To encourage and motivate people to take an active role in their own recovery journey.
- To actively engage in regular clinical and management supervision, to ensure adherence to the MEP program and own personal development.
- To maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies, and key areas of interest relating to ‘personality disorder’, peer support and mental health.
- To attend clinical, business and service development meetings as required.
- To assist in the promotion of the service through active liaison
