Peer Support Worker

London, United Kingdom West London NHS Trust Full time

Are you passionate about helping others? Do you have lived experience of mental illness or caring for someone who has a mental health condition?

Would you like to use this experience to help people affected by mental health challenges?

We have an exciting opportunity for a peer support worker in Ealing Acton with lived experience of recovery from mental health challenges or supporting someone with mental health challenges to join our new Mental Health Integrated Network Teams (MINT) based across the trust.

The peer support work service is growing in West London NHS Trust, and it is a really great time to be joining us. We need people who are prepared to use their own experience to support and encourage others to develop an independent and meaningful life. The posts are people who have never worked as a peer support worker and want to move into a role which will prepare them for a career within peer support work, sharing the wisdom of their own lived experience both within the team and with clients to embed peer support and recovery values within the service setting.

The role will involve attending regular reflective practice meetings and peer based training and supervisions which take place on Thursday mornings therefore all peer workers are expected to attend these meetings as they are a mandatory requirement of the role.

Peer support workers will hold a small caseload of clients and attend training to build their personal training portfolio. On completion peer workers will offer 121 case work and be delivering group based peer interventions both internally and within the local community.

West London NHS Trust is one of the most diverse healthcare providers in the UK, delivering a range of mental health and physical healthcare and community services. The Trust runs Broadmoor Hospital, one of three high secure hospitals in the country, with an international reputation.

Our turnover for 2023-24 is £426m.

The Trust is rated as ‘Good’ overall by the Care Quality Commission. Forensic services are rated as ‘Outstanding’.
