Cherry ward is a purpose built 20 bedded ward based in the Nottingham City area, caring for people in and around the surrounding areas of Nottinghamshire.

Cherry ward provides high quality care 24 hours a day 7 days a week to people over the age of 65 from Nottingham City and County who are experiencing a range of mental health issues and require an hospital admission to assess and treat their presenting symptoms.

We are seeking a dynamic, proactive, compassionate, caring and recovery focused experienced Healthcare Assistants with excellent communication skills to join our existing dynamic multidisciplinary teams to be involved in extensive assessments and formulations to support the planning and delivery of patients care. The multidisciplinary teams all work in a way that is collaborative, evidenced based and responsive to the needs of those in our care.

You will
- Work as part of a supportive multi-disciplinary team
- Work flexibly to support patients in a variety of contexts as per hospital staffing demands
- Offer a wide range of ward and day unit based activities
- Contribute to the care pathways of male and female patients in functional setting supporting with patients with complex needs and high-risk behaviours.
- Act as a positive role model to colleagues and patients and monitor/supervise junior staff as required.
- Plan ward activities programme to engage patients in the Recovery process.
- Act as a link between the Ward and Therapies teams.

The team includes a wide range of disciplines including Nurse, Healthcare Assistant, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Education staff, Technical Instructors with a wide range of skills, Therapeutic Involvement Workers and more.

To work flexibly to support patients wherever required as per staffing requirements.

Work with a group of patients with complex needs, who exhibit challenging behaviours, in the context of mental illness.

Develop and plan group and individual activities directly linked to individual patient’s needs and choice.

Lead in creative programme planning of topical, interesting and therapeutic activities aimed at male/female patients with diverse needs linking with the Therapy and Live team to provide a full activity programme as part of the patients recovery process.

To work 22.5 hours over 3 day week.

To undertake escorting duties as required.

To prepare equipment/materials for each individual/group session and ensure this is in line with Infection Control and security guidelines.

Work to a high standard in completion of all duties.

To support patient’s to engage in meaningful day activities and contribute to the ward, patient and carer involvement.

To link and support the Ward Occupational Therapist, Occupational Therapy Assistant to assess for patients with low motivational conditions and support them to engage in their treatment.

Utilise knowledge and skills gained through the achievement of relevant qualifications or experience to undertake direct patient activities related to engagement work.

Responsible for creating a positive therapeutic milieu which supports and promotes positive regard, respect, choice and personal growth.

Deliver a planned activity programme, which is gender sensitive and patient centred, with the long term goal of recovery.

To make regular contact with patient relatives and carers, giving update on patient engagement on the ward with patient consent.

Maintain sound working relationship with the Involvement team and the Triangle of Care process and any training required.

Actively contribute to all patients on the ward are encouraged to engage in meaningful activity both on and off ward.
