Assistant Surveyor

Role purpose
To support the Surveyor in the day to day running of commercial activities on allocated project(s), ensuring delivery is in line with Company and customer expectations, whilst developing knowledge and skills.
Key Accountabilities
To support the Surveyor and project team in providing monthly reports to the Customer, ensuring that such reports contain accurate forecasts of our rolling final account, full information concerning variations and a record of contractual notices.
Develop and maintain close relationships with customers, consultants and subcontractors to continuously improve the customer experience and support future repeat and negotiated business.
Assist in all bidding and tender processes during relevant stages of pre-development and that correct forms are completed and issued.
To engage with the wider project team to ensure consistent delivery of successful projects in order to support the achievement of Company objectives.
To undertake regular site visits and assist the project team in preparing comprehensive reports for internal monthly project reviews to demonstrate project and team performance.
To assist in managing project set up and ensure any pre-contract expenditure does not exceed any authority limit, such as the customer letter of instruction.
To support the Commercial Manager and project team to ensure that all significant project issues and correspondence and necessary contractual processes have been observed and acted upon to protect the Company's position.
To assist senior management in the protection of the Company's contractual position.
To liaise with site management and administer project Request for Information schedules.
To liaise with site management to maximise value recovery and minimise costs.
To manage cost expenditure in close association with the site team.
To assist in maintaining the cash forecasting system on an accurate and timely basis ensuring that the cash position of the project is maximised without compromising contractual arrangements and relationships.
To assist in managing all cost control aspects of the project(s), ensuring the use of appropriate cost, reporting systems.
To maximise value recovery, cost control and cash management.
To produce and agree final accounts with the assistance of the Commercial Manager.
To implement value and cash strategy in accordance with Company procedures.
To manage own learning and development, seeking feedback from others and taking every opportunity to develop commercial skills and broaden construction knowledge.
To manage the communication of all necessary information.
To ensure our HSQE and quality standards, operating processes, company policies, ISO accreditations and all legislative requirements are understood, implemented and adhered to at all times.
To ensure the use of Company preferred sub-contractors and suppliers to improve HSQE and project delivery standards and to achieve cost savings and rebate recovery.
To ensure the early involvement of appropriate subcontractors in the project planning process.
To ensure that all subcontract orders/warranties and professional appointments are placed in line with the contract and programme.
To support the group buying deals by ensuring they are communicated to suppliers at tender stage and applied at order stage.
Commercial control of subcontract packages with the assistance of the Commercial Manager.
To ensure payments and notices are issued to subcontractors in line with Company policy/subcontract terms.
Skills & experience
Non-graduate - experience whilst studying part-time
Good knowledge and understanding of Word and Excel packages
Good verbal and written communication skills
Must be passionate about work, committed to excellence and continuous improvement both on personal and divisional level with a proven record of delivering results.
Must be able to build trust and confidence through open communications and informing colleagues about issues that will affect their role.
Generates new relationships easily and is committed to generating new business opportunity
Must be organised and prioritise own work to deliver on time through managing time and delegating effectively and have a high level of attention to detail
Must be able to participate, share knowledge and actively support colleagues.
Must be able to remain calm and focused in difficult situations.
Must be able to take full accountability for their role, actions, judgements and decisions.
**Qualifications**:
To be on a degree course or suitable NVQ or BTec course
Graduate - Degree qualified
