We are delighted to be offering this exciting opportunity to join our innovative, supportive and highly valued team of Educational Psychologists working in the beautiful and historic city of York. We are looking for Trainees, entering their 2nd year of the Doctorate Training programme in September 2023, who have a strong desire to live and work in or around the York area.
The Educational Psychology (EP) Service is highly regarded by schools/settings and families. As an EP in York, you will be working within a needs-led service model that supports a graduated approach, with a focus on building capacity at SEN support and providing high quality statutory assessments across the 0-25 age range. Service priorities include developing ELSAs in schools, supporting pathways for children and young people with anxiety relating to school attendance, rolling out trauma-informed attachment training to schools and settings and supporting the LA offer for neurodiverse children/young people. We work closely with colleagues in the Specialist Teaching Team, School Wellbeing Service and Virtual School. See York Education for more information.
You will have responsibility for providing a supervised and supported psychological service to a small cluster of schools in the city.
We are looking for a highly motivated and passionate Trainee EP who will be:
- committed to inclusive philosophy and strengths-based practice
- a team player
- an excellent communicator with effective time management skills
- committed to building capacity within educational settings
- confident and highly competent in delivery of training and consultation to a range of audiences
- consistent in your delivery of high-quality casework
- creative, flexible and solution-oriented
- a proactive advocate of children’s rights
We can offer you:
- excellent professional relationships in a lively and supportive team
- an enhanced offer of regular supervision with a Senior EP
- opportunities to develop a range of skills and experiences to demonstrate you meet the relevant competencies leading to successful completion of the doctoral course.
- University commitments will be honoured to ensure the appropriate balance of academic and practical experiences.
- a reduced allocation of statutory assessments in line with the University Placement Practice Guidelines
- excellent opportunities to develop specialist skills and undertake joint work with experienced colleagues, including training
- comprehensive IT support including laptop and smartphone
- hybrid working arrangements
You must hold an Honours degree in Psychology and be expected to successfully complete Year 1 of the Educational Psychology Doctorate.
It is anticipated that you will complete your Doctoral qualification and be registered with the HCPC as a ‘Practitioner Psychologist’ after 2 years.
As part of this role, you will be required to travel to settings out in the community, therefore, a full and valid driving licence is desirable.
As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance in spoken English to CEFR level C2. This requirement is in accordance with Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 (Fluency Duty).
The Council is committed to investing in the talent and wellbeing of our staff and can offer a generous annual leave allowance, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, comprehensive Health & Wellbeing initiatives and a reward package which recognises your contribution. We can offer flexible working practices, community engagement and volunteer activities and, as part of our commitment to you, promote continuous Learning & Development. In addition we also offer a growing range of discounts, rewards and savings.
Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
For further information or an informal discussion please contact:
Closing date: Sunday 16 April 2023
Provisional Interview date: week beginning 24 April 2023 - interviews will be face to face.
