**Health and Safety Officer**

**Duration of contract: Permanent**

**Hours: 37.50**

**How will you contribute?**
- Manage site Health & Safety in accordance with Wincanton’s Safety Health Environmental Procedures.
- Ensure the site meets or exceeds the Health & Safety targets expected by Company / Client.
- Manage and maintain site training records and site training matrix.
- Co-ordination of all site Health & Safety activities including committees, training, and communications to ensure the site remains compliant.
- Assist/undertake risk assessments and create SSOWs as required.
- Using corporate IT systems to produce reports & support the delivery of Safety across the network.
- Ensure compliance when dealing with accident investigation and RIDDOR reports.
- Work in line with Company Process and Audit requirements.
- Support accident investigation and reporting to identify root cause and implementation of corrective action to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure all hazards, near misses, accidents and incidents are recorded correctly and escalated within a timely manner using the company safety database system.
- Act as necessary without supervision to get things done and organize people and activities effectively, knowing what to measure and how to measure it.
- Consult with the Health & Safety Manager and site management team.
- Define problems and devise effective solutions using rigorous logical and analytical tools.
- Be pro-active in decision making based on analysis, experience, judgement, and intuition.
- Conduct site inspections to analyse what exists and what needs to be done and arrange for appropriate actions to be taken.
- Ensure compliance with Regulations by making frequent, unannounced physical inspections and by auditing of written documentation/evidence.
- Hold Health & Safety meetings and oversee First Aiders on site again acting in accordance with site compliance and current legislation.
- Manage and drive safety plans across all network sites including advocating a H&S comes first culture.
- Support and liaise with the Facilities Management/Engineering function onsite.

**What will you bring?**
- Currently holds or are working towards NEBOSH qualification essential.
- Experience of a previous health and safety role within an operational environment. Warehousing operation would be desirable.
- Experience with Facilities Management preferred.
- Proactive, effective, and motivated team player who can demonstrate a strong capability of engaging with the workforce and be able to effectively communicate with colleagues and customers, both verbally and in writing
- Remains calm and works well under pressure in tight deadline situations, displaying exceptional organisational skills.
- Experience of working to ISO standards preferred.
- Must be able to demonstrate a keen interest in continually improving our Health, Safety and Environment performance.
- Self-driven to achieve continual improvement.
- Attention to detail.
- Current UK driving license.
