Home Office vision is for a safe, fair and prosperous UK spending approximately £3bn each year on contracts which are manged by our Commercial teams of 300+ professionals. The goods and services we buy is varied, supporting operational delivery for asylum seekers, accommodation provision, passports, e-gates to provision of sniffer dogs at our ports, to name a few.

You will work with us to deliver the best possible value from the goods and services that we buy for the Home Office (HO).

You will be an enthusiastic team player, a good communicator and able to think on your feet to support busy Commercial teams.

The Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) apprenticeship offers you the opportunity to study while working, gaining a recognised commercial qualification and invaluable, hands-on experience in the workplace. This role will allow you to build a foundation of transferable skills in a stretching environment, providing a great stepping-stone for a future career in the Civil Service.

You could find yourself working in one of the following Commercial business partner teams
- Homeland Security - responsible for safeguarding our nation from terrorism, extremism and cyber-attack.

Customer - responsible for passports, citizenship, civil registration, visas and asylum support.

Grants - working across HO portfolio to support operational delivery e.g., Police and Fire.

Digital Data & Technology - responsible for digitising service delivery platforms.

**Job description**:

HO exercises a hybrid approach to working with a minimum 40% in the office (equivalent to 2 days).

**About the Role**

The role of a Commercial Apprentice will provide the right person with an invaluable insight into how the Commercial team enables delivery of important services to the public.

You will contribute towards the effectiveness and efficiency of Commercial, by supporting your team with varied tasks and helping to resolve problems.

The roles are in Croydon, Durham, Liverpool and Manchester and align to current hybrid working arrangements referenced above.

**Responsibilities**
The post will provide opportunities to be involved in the following:

- Assisting Commercial leads to manage live contracts, ensuring that goods or services are delivered as agreed.
- Helping Commercial leads to manage changes to live contracts, developing an understanding of full change control processes.
- Understanding the legal terms which are put in place once a contract has been agreed.
- Manage relationships with suppliers to deliver contracts which ensure quality goods and services to agreed timescales.
- Provide content for Commercial reports.
- Learn about risks and how to manage these in order to support contract delivery.
- Help to ensure adherence to policies as part of the Commercial support team.
