The finance and payroll officer will support the finance business partners in providing an effective and efficient financial service for both internal and external stakeholders. The role will focus on the management of purchase ledger and supplier payments, processing of payroll and support the production of accurate and timely management and financial accounts. Training and development is provided.

**What you will do**
- Manage and maintain Social Work England’s finance system, processing of day-to-day financial information, including purchase ledger, sales receipts and BACS payments.
- Take on the lead role of “super-user” for the finance and payroll system delivering effective solutions to meet the needs of our internal and external customers. Proactively liaise with others throughout the organisation in their use of the “Enable” system, including communication through various mediums and the coaching of others including board and executive staff.
- Within the finance and payroll team, independently set, agree and allocate tasks across in line with key deadlines, ensuring key operational finance KPI’s are met.
- Manage the process for all registration fee income, ensuring fees are correctly accounted for in line with Social Work England’s income recognition policy. Investigating and resolving any discrepancies.
- Produce effective financial controls, regularly reconciling balance sheet control accounts and resolving or escalating issues where appropriate.
- Responsible for the preparation, processing & administration of monthly payroll ensuring compliance with contractual and statutory obligations. Provide advice and guidance to the wider finance team in relation to any pay and pension costs.
- Possess specialist payroll and pension knowledge, act as the first point of contact for all employees, investigating and resolving any payroll related queries. Liaise with external payroll and pension stakeholders to ensure issues are resolved and penalties avoided.
- Support the finance business partners in the preparation of monthly management accounts, analysing actual spend and calculating journals and accruals to ensure all costs are accurately recorded.
- Be proactive in developing and enhancing existing finance and payroll processes.
- Assist with other ad-hoc activities or projects as and when required.

**Your skills, knowledge and experience**
- Have specialist in-depth knowledge of payroll and pensions with demonstrable experience of providing advice and guidance to both internal and external customers.
- Ability to work using your own initiative, investigate issues drawing relevant facts from several different sources and be proactive in seeking solutions.
- Good organisational skills are essential with effective time management, prioritisation and the ability to manage a complex varied workload effectively. Working to agreed deadlines with a high degree of accuracy.
- Previous experience of working in a similar finance role with experience of communicating team targets, allocating work, ensuring quality of outputs, and providing specialist guidance to team members and colleagues outside of the finance team.
- Experience of reconciling control and other balance sheet accounts, being responsible for the investigation and resolution of a range of complex accounting transactions. Required to explain reasoning for adjustments made and provide analysis to finance business partners and auditors.
- Well-developed communication and inter-personal skills, with the ability to manage relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills e.g. Lookups, Pivot tables etc and well developed written and verbal communication.
- AAT qualified and/or working towards a professional accounting or payroll qualification (ACCA/CIMA/CIPP).
