The Department of Chemistry has an exciting new part-time opportunity for a Communications and Marketing talent and is looking for motivated applicants wishing to join one of the premier chemistry departments in the world, a hothouse for innovation and an international beacon for research and teaching.

The Communications Officer role will focus on developing a brand identity for the Department through a range of creative communications materials that will promote, engage, and inform our audiences through effective use of channels and messaging. This will include developing, updating and maintaining new and existing communication channels, and generating content for and managing our websites, newsletters and social and multimedia channels.

This exciting role will work to raise the profile and understanding of research activities and our ways of working with industry, government, academics, students, policymakers, alumni and other stakeholders and provide support for academic staff through a range of outputs, including events and communication materials.

**Duties and responsibilities**:

- To initiate and manage partnerships with external stakeholders, developing opportunities for Imperial researchers to disseminate findings and strategic opportunities widely among corporate and government sectors. This includes the development of a brand identity and communication strategy to showcase the opportunities with the Department of Chemistry through co-location at the new White City Campus.
- To devise and deliver a range of events to connect policymakers, industry leaders and influencers with Chemistry academics on priority research themes.
- To develop and manage relevant stakeholder contacts, working with other colleagues to build a stakeholder database.
- To research and write compelling briefing documents, white papers, presentations and reports on our research activities and partnerships, including case studies.
- To Understand and proactively engage with the College’s strategic priorities in all communications.
- Day-to-day management and updating of Chemistry websites, assisting with the planning of new sites, and regularly monitoring site analytics and to manage social media channels - creating content plans, posting, and evaluating engagement.

**Essential requirements**:

- Educated to degree level (or equivalent)
- Experience of using content management systems and having previous responsibility for editing, updating, and overseeing web content
- Experience of delivering events
- Experience of delivering communications for a variety of audiences
- Knowledge of graphic design, photography and typography
- An interest in science and scientific research
- Proven knowledge and experience in the use and development of digital and social media as part of integrated communications and marketing activity
- Ability to anticipate, analyse and mitigate reputational risks, resolve problems and adapt to rapidly changing circumstances
- Ability to write and edit clear, engaging and accurate briefings to tight deadlines and respond effectively to comments
- Ability to work collaboratively, build consensus and influence outcomes

This is a part time (0.5 FTE) and open-ended role, based at White City Campus.
