The Royce Thin Film Device Materials Research Platform, in the new Imperial College White City Campus, is a fully integrated laboratory. It enables the creation of Thin Film devices using novel materials and includes materials preparation, deposition, patterning, characterisation (e.g. X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy) and device testing facilities. This position provides pro-active and high level technical, administrative, and operational support for the Research Platform. The job holder will ensure it operates smoothly, efficiently, and professionally, following Department and College policies where applicable.

The post holder will provide technical support for the laboratory, in addition to excellent customer service for internal and external users of the Research Platform. They will be expected to support the Platform’s purchasing, financial and operational processes, in addition to managing office and lab space. They will also provide administrative support to key Royce academic staff.

**Duties and responsibilities**:

- Provide a highly professional and welcoming first point of contact for Research Platform visitors, including college staff, students, and external users. Field general enquiries, both in person and online, as well as resolving any user issues/problems/queries independently where possible.
- Ensure equipment booking, charging and record keeping processes for both internal and external users are followed. Liaise with technical, administrative, and business engagement staff to ensure projects are vetted properly and that billing is executed in an accurate and timely manner.To enhance the operational efficiency and quality of the user experience through implementing improvements in procedure and process, after reviewing with relevant stakeholders.
- Use the facility booking systems to track usage and generate reports as requested, highlighting and prioritising any issues for further investigation.
- Ensure effective communication between the Research Platform user community, external organisations, Royce hub, departmental staff and student; e.g circulation of Newsletters, publicity materials etc.

**Technical and Administrative Support for the Royce Platform**
- Ensure the office space is fit for purpose and well maintained - including board room AV equipment, notifying the support services of any defects and following up on responses.
- To use the College’s system for reporting defects on the infrastructure and follow up the job to completion.
- Liaise with contractors from the estates’ department to assist them undertaking necessary regular preventative maintenance, such as emergency lights, air handling units, water, and fire services.
- Act as the first point of contact for external contractors; help to organise their visits (e.g., book parking space), welcome them upon arrival and, with the help of the technical staff members, give them the necessary support to assure the job is done safely and timely (e.g. raising permit to works and enforcing safety measures).
- Deliver the building introduction and safety inductions to new users of the Royce Platform.
- Ensure communal and lab spaces are kept clean and orderly.
- Organise and participate in the cleanroom operations; e.g establishing and participating in cleaning, cleaning rota preparation and cleanroom gown laundry.

**Essential requirements**:

- Educated to A level standard (or equivalent) and have relevant experience in a similar role
- Proven experience of working in an administrative office within a technical core business providing excellent customer service
- Proven experience of managing and completing multiple tasks alongside each other
- Proven experience of supporting work in a technical environment
- Interest in science and engineering research and development
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- An ability to work methodically, to use initiative and to prioritise and plan activities.
- Ability to explain and understand administrative processes
- An ability to deal with sensitive and confidential information
- Proactive, self-motivated and enthusiastic and used to working independently
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Proactive problem-solving approach and self-starter
