**JOB TITLE**:Volunteer and Engagement Officer
**SALARY**:Full-time Gross Salary = £26,841 ( pro-rata 24 hours = £17,410 )
**LOCATION**:Brian Jackson House, 2 New North Parade, Huddersfield HD1 5JP as well as working in an outreach capacity across Kirklees.
**RESPONSIBLE TO**:Volunteer Services Lead
**RESPONSIBLE FOR**:Volunteers/any sessional staff
**HOURS**:24 hours per week over 3 or 4 days a week
**CONTRACT**:12 month contract
**SAFEGUARDING**:This role requires an enhance DBS in line with our safer recruitment processes.
**ABOUT THIRD SECTOR LEADERS KIRKLEES**:TSL Kirklees is a small local charity that helps charities, community and voluntary groups, and social enterprises in Kirklees to grow and develop. We want to help make great things happen that support local people and communities across Kirklees. We do this by offering free support, advice, training, and networking to any local organisation and by connecting groups to each other. We are the accredited Volunteer Centre for Kirklees - matching people who want to volunteer with organisations looking for volunteers. We nurture partnerships and collaborations and provide a voice for the third sector in Kirklees.
**JOB PURPOSE**:
To support the Volunteer Services Lead in the development of high-quality volunteering in Kirklees which is inclusive and accessible.
**Principal Duties and Responsibilities**
- Work with the Volunteer Services Lead to manage the volunteering hub of the TSL website, including reviewing and approving volunteer adverts.
- To promote volunteering on our social media channels.
- To match individuals to appropriate volunteer roles through one to one appointments over the phone, online or face to face (across Kirklees).
- To provide additional Buddy support for individuals with additional barriers to help them access volunteering including individuals with physical or learning disabilities, mental health needs and English as a second language.
- To support organisations to develop good practice in relation to volunteering including sharing sample volunteer policies and procedures.
- To support the co-ordination of network events and training events for the third sector in relation to volunteering.
- Identify barriers to volunteering for people from disadvantaged backgrounds and develop practical and creative solutions to enable access.
- Increase our engagement with under-represented groups and communities by working in partnership with grassroots organisations and listening to and responding to their needs.
- To promote volunteering at a range of recruitment events with partners including community, public sector and education.
- To develop links with businesses and promote and increase Employer Supported Volunteering opportunities.
- To collect volunteer stories and share them through our website and social media.
- To support celebration events and recruitment campaigns including Volunteers Week.
- Collect quantitative and qualitative data to inform our monitoring reports for funders.
- To deputise for the Volunteer Services Lead where appropriate.
**General Responsibilities**
- To work co-operatively with all members of TSL staff and board and adhere to the values, policies, practices and procedures of TSL with particular reference to the promotion of diversity and equal opportunities and safeguarding.
- To work flexibly to meet the needs of TSL, including evening and weekend work including travelling to venues across Kirklees.
- To carry out other tasks from time to time as reasonably requested.

Experience of managing volunteers and/or of volunteering
Experience of interacting with people from a wide range of backgrounds

Experience in a similar role in the voluntary sector.
Project Management experience
Experience of managing events and delivering training.

Good standard of literacy and numeracy and a commitment to personal development
**Desirable**
English and Maths GCSE pass.
**3. Knowledge**
**Essential**
Understanding of the needs of people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Knowledge of volunteering issues and relevant legislation including Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety and Safeguarding.
**Desirable**
Knowledge of Kirklees geographical areas.
**4. Skills & Abilities**
**Essential**
Excellent Communication skills.
Ability to work in a team.
Good IT skills (including Microsoft Office and social media).
Flexible and co-operative with a positive outlook.
Inclusive approach to dealing with situations and people.
Ability to work to tight deadlines and manage own workload.
**Desirable**
A community language/s relevant to Kirklees.
**5. Additional Factors**

Ability to travel across Kirklees including evenings and weekends (access to a car and a valid driving licence would be advantageous)
