**Job overview**:
To assist the research and innovation department within neurology n in providing care to patients at Nottingham University Hospitals. This is a secondment or fixed term contract post to work on all neurological studies requiring an assistant psychologist

To organise and facilitate International and National, Commercial and Non-Commercial Clinical Trials within the Research and Innovation Trial portfolio including preparation for study submissions.

**To work as a member of the team providing a high standard of care to patients participating in research including data entry, assisting with patient care and trial specific tasks.

To be responsible for the co-ordination of Clinical Trials, Ethics and R&D approval in compliance with Good Clinical Research Practice and the European Directive.

Providing direct support to the Consultants and MDT teams for clinical procedures and specific specialised Research procedures.

To implement, maintain and update relevant data systems in accordance with strict protocol guidelines.

To assist the adult neuropsychology service in providing care to patients with neurological conditions or injuries (suspected or confirmed) at the neurosciences unit at Nottingham University Hospitals. The post was specifically developed as an initiative to improve the waiting times for people referred to the service.

The successful applicant will join the Academic Department of Clinical Neurology at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. It is a supportive and well-respected department and will be supported by the Research and Innovation team. There are excellent links with the University of Nottingham and the Trent Clinical Psychology Doctorate Course.

**Detailed job description and main responsibilities**:**To assist in collecting psychological outcome data and managing a clinical database.

To support neuropsychological assessments of adults and children under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist.

To effectively score and interpret psychological test results.

To communicate highly sensitive (and sometimes distressing) psychological test results to patients and carers/family, when required.

To communicate the results of psychological tests to other members of the multidisciplinary team.

To advise patients on strategies to manage their psychosocial concerns, as appropriate.

To contribute to environmental and service developments to enhance patient experience and psychological well-being.

To work empathically and confidently with patients with physical illness including children with cancer, and their families; and adults with neurological conditions and injuries and their families.

To work effectively with patients from a diverse range of cultural/ethnic backgrounds, understanding and respecting the impact of difference and diversity upon their lives and difficulties.

To liaise with multi-disciplinary teams as appropriate and receive and retrieve complex medical information from consultants and other healthcare professionals.

**Audit and Research**

To collate and analyse audit or research data as required, under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist.

To undertake literature searches and contribute to written reports/publications as required.

To score clinical and research questionnaires and analyse this data.

To assist with the development of research funding bids.

**Experience**:
**Essential criteria**:

- Experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist (or similar) in direct clinical contact with people with psychological difficulties
- Experience of working with patients with neurological illness and injury
- Experience of neuropsychology assessments

**Desirable criteria**:

- Experience of assessing adults with multiple disabilities
- Familiarity with bio-psycho-social models of disability and care

**Qualification**:
