**The Role**

To underwrite US Casualty book of business, that focuses on Fortune 1,000, Rail and Construction accounts. The team see a broad range of trades and meet the majority of clients. We deal with all the major brokers and independent London wholesalers for the class and travel to the US for conferences and production trips.

The team has a flat structure and focuses on discussion of accounts and ideas together, whilst empowering underwriters to make decisions within the underwriting guidelines for the team.

The team is led by Nic Wood with Lydia Ross and Matt Mayhook, supported by casualty technicians and central operations.

The role requires working closely with internal claims and actuarial and developing strong relationships with brokers.

**Responsibilities will include**:

- To underwrite US General Liability business in accordance with the Syndicate Business Plan and within the terms of the underwriting authority.
- To build and maintain client and internal relationships.
- Identify and capitalise upon new business opportunities.
- To review and respond to submissions.
- Complete pricing and wording reviews.
- Input to peer review process.
- Complete underwriting process from start to finish and ensure that complete and accurate underwriting records are maintained.
- Take appropriate corrective action on poorly performing accounts or segments of the portfolio.
- Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, regulations, and best practices
- To ensure that the Head of US General Liability and Head of Casualty are immediately notified of any underwriting dispute, misconduct or any other matter of which he would reasonably expect to be advised.
- To promote a culture where client’s needs are placed at the heart of underwriting decision-making and business is conducted in a manner that meets internal standards and FCA guidelines.
- To ensure that the FCA principle of treating customers fairly (TCF) is applied in those areas of the business within the jobholder’s responsibility.

**Essential Skills & Experience**
- Underwriting experience in US general liability
- Strong communication skills
- Be able to explain your decision making process, give constructive input to underwriting decisions.
- Consider, review and assess exposures and make appropriate underwriting decisions
- Respond to market changes
- Ability to comprehend, interpret and take appropriate actions to policy wordings
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Organised and methodical
