Advanced Lived Experience Educator
Do you have personal lived experience of time spent in prison?
Have you since used your lived experience in a professional role - perhaps in peer support or as a peer trainer?
Are you passionate about delivering training and improving safety for people in the prison system?
A new and unique opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled peer worker to join Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL) as an Advanced Lived Experience Educator in our Health & Justice Services.
This role will be part of the core team in the newly established Health & Justice Learning Hub. The Hub is responsible for co-ordinating, enhancing and developing innovative approaches to learning across the London Prisons and criminal justice system pathways.
The Hub’s focus is on serious safety incidents, with a particular focus on deaths in custody (including harm to self and suicide), with the aim of learning from and improving the response to these. We are keen to work with someone who can draw on their personal experience of the prison environment (in which these incidents happen) to support the Hub team and the wider Criminal Justice System to better understand and account for the experience of those in prison in all our learning responses. This will involve connecting with people currently detained in prison as well as their families and professionals working in these environments to help incorporate all perspectives and best target learning responses.
The role will be based in the Gordon Hospital in London, the home of CNWL’s Health & Justice Learning Hub, but will also work across London Prison sites and other parts of the criminal justice system. The Advanced Lived Experience Educator, as part of the Health & Justice Learning Hub team, will have a focus on recovery, co-production and service user involvement, and the experience of the service user throughout inception and operationalisation.
The role will include close working with Health & Justice colleagues, as well as other organisations working alongside London Prisons, as well as a professional link to the Central Lived Experience Team.
**The post holder will**:
**The postholder will**:
Work as part of the core team to provide high quality educational opportunities, delivering a range of recovery focused courses and workshops for staff
Participate in the development, evaluation and promotion of the Hub; coproducing a range of complex and sensitive recovery-focused courses and workshops alongside external facilitators with lived experience
To link into existing forums in, and organisations working alongside, London Prisons and other parts of the Criminal Justice Pathway to understand the perspectives, priorities and experiences needed to shape the Hub’s approach.
Lead on engagement of service user perspectives in all key deliverables of the Hub through a meaningful approach of shared decision making and collaborative shaping of these
Please see the job description and person specification for further details of the role
The successful applicant may have contact with patients or service users. As an NHS Trust we strongly encourage and support vaccination as this remains the best way to protect yourself, your family, your colleagues and of course patients and service users when working on our healthcare settings.
Central and North West London NHS Trust is committed to providing safe, effective services and providing those who use the services; and those who support them, with a positive experience.
**Our Trust Values are**:
**COMPASSION**: contribution to a caring and kind environment and recognition that what you do and say can help to improve the lives of others.
**RESPECT**: acknowledge, respect and value diversity of each individual, recognition of uniqueness.
**EMPOWERMENT**: commitment to providing information, resources and support to help others make their own decisions and meet their own needs. The Trust endeavours to support all staff to enable them to develop and grow.
**PARTNERSHIP**: work closely with others and behave in a way that demonstrates understanding that commissioners and users of our services are the people who generate and fund our work.
For a detailed job description and person specification, please see the document linked in this advert.
Please note this post will require the ability to travel independently to London Prisons sites as needed.
