**The role**:
We are looking to appoint an experienced Disability Adviser to join the Disability Service. The post holder will have a strong commitment to improving student experience by working with internal and external stakeholders to provide appropriate reasonable adjustments for students under the Equality Act 2010.

Working within a team of Advisers and reporting to a Disability Advice Team Leader, this is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the University’s commitment to working with disabled students and University staff.

**This is a fixed-term contract until 26/07/2024.**

**What will you be doing?**:
The role focuses on improving disabled students experience and supporting them to successfully complete their programmes of study. With a focus on the accessibility of teaching and assessment, you will recommend suitable adjustments to help to remove the barriers that disabled students may face and to make recommendations to staff on how to improve overall disability inclusion.
- You will be a strong relationship builder and problem solver with experience and knowledge of disability support and reasonable adjustments in higher education.
- You will work autonomously and manage the demands of a complex case load.
- You will meet with students, face-to-face and online, to understand their personal study related disability impacts.
- You will have a positive and solution focused approach to the challenges and opportunities of a varied case load.
- You will be committed to continuing professional development, remaining up to date with current legislation and policy changes, training opportunities and having a reflective approach to your own practice.
- You will be expected to design and deliver training and to participate in offer holder events and Open Day events, which on occasion will fall outside of standard working hours.
- You will be able to identify risks both to students and to the institution, knowing how to deal with these situations and identify areas of good practice that can be adopted across the service. This role will include responding to students in distress while following appropriate risk and safeguarding policies. You will be expected to review sensitive personal medical documentation.

- You have experience of providing disability support or recommending reasonable adjustments.
- You are an excellent problem solver and communicator, able to work with University staff and students to identify solutions to remove barriers to learning and assessment.
