This is an exciting opportunity to support a new team as an **Education Access Assistant Officer **working across **Suffolk** to strengthen our system wide response to children and young people who are at risk, or already experiencing a reduced access to education.
Following a recent capacity review, Suffolk County Council, Children and Young People Inclusion Services are expanding.
This is an exciting time to join and be part of shaping **Special Educational needs and Disability (SEND) services **across Suffolk.
**Your role**
You will work alongside your team and other Local Authority Officers and partners to deliver improved outcomes for children, young people and their families; removing barriers to access to education. You will ensure effective working relationship with key partners such as:
- Education Setting Leaders/ Pastoral Teams
- Family Services
- Alternative Tuition Service
- Whole School Inclusion Service
- Specialist Education Services
- Standards and Excellence Team
- Education Welfare Officers
- Virtual School
- Social Care and Early Help
- Health Professionals.
**You will**:
- provide support for individual children and young people and their families through their education pathway and/or SEND Journey
- ensure that advice and guidance are of high quality and delivered
- contribute to the Local Authorities’ response to support children and young people who have been permanently excluded or who are at risk of exclusion.
- provide appropriate guidance, challenge and support to education providers to ensure provision meets the needs of individual children and young people.
**Your responsibilities**
You will:
- model and embody the attributes of ‘The Ideal Worker’
- work in a solution orientated way, with children, young people and their families at the heart
- support the promotion of inclusive practice across the education system and our partners
- establish and maintain good working relationships with other professionals within your work and with parents/carers and Local Authority staff
- respond to the issues that may be affecting the young people’s ability to access education and support them appropriately
- maintain accurate records to inform ongoing school placement and to meet our Statutory Responsibilities.
**You will need**:
- a strong track record of effectively supporting children, young people and their families
- experience of working within an education setting (or equivalent), and evidence of inclusive practice to bring about positive outcomes for children and young people
- experience of successfully working with children, young people and families
- a strong commitment to social inclusion, equality and diversity
- excellent communication skills and be confident when communicating with a wide range of stakeholders
- be resilient, self-motivated, creative and flexible.
**The team**
The Education Access Team will work together across other internal services and external partners to find solutions and to create positive outcomes for those children, young people and their families who, for a range of reasons, are out of education and therefore vulnerable to non-participation, non-engagement and under-achievement.
