A fantastic opportunity to join the Adults Health and Wellbeing Directorate in the Sensory Team as a Rehabilitation Officer, to promote independence, safety and quality of life for visually impaired adults. Plan, implement, and review rehabilitation programmes and other services in order to promote independence and quality of life. To manage an allocated caseload of clients with a visual impairment, and with supervision regularly monitor and review them to ensure an effective use of resources.

**Core responsibilities and duties will include**:
Be responsible for undertaking specialist assessments of need for adults who are registered Severely Sight impaired/Blind or Sight Impaired/Partially Sighted taking into account of the Council’s eligibility criteria.

Offer information, advice and support to visually impaired adults and carers to raise their awareness of visual impairment and resources available.

Be responsible for teaching indoor and outdoor orientation and mobility skills, including the use of a long cane and other specialist mobility aids. To teach low vision skills and the use of mapping and guiding techniques and take appropriate action which is outcome focused.

Promote independence and reduce risks for adults with visual impairment needs living in Doncaster.

To undertake cases, assessing and managing risks appropriately.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the local statutory, independent and voluntary organisations working with visually impaired individuals.

Support and encourage Community Led Support.

**Essential skills, knowledge and experience required to fulfil the role include, but are not limited to:

BSc (hons) Rehabilitation Visual Impairment/Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care (visual impairment)/Foundation degree in Rehabilitation (visual impairment)/Diploma in Higher Education Rehabilitation Studies/Certification in Rehabilitation Work (visual impairment).

Experience of carrying out Visual Impairment strengths based assessments and developing appropriate interventions with clients to meet their outcomes

Knowledge of adult health and social care provision, relevant statuary frameworks and policy including the Care Act 2014 and other relevant legislation.
