**Summary**
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, skilled and knowledgeable Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead. This is part of the next wave of staff recruitment as our Academy grows and takes on its next cohort of students in September 2023, ready for reaching full capacity by 2024.

**Main Areas of Responsibility**
As our Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, you will take a key operational role in the safeguarding processes within the Academy including acting as the lead Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead.

You will also oversee the Academy’s approach towards mental health and wellbeing, including:

- Directly supporting students who are at risk of, or show signs of, mental ill health;
- Overseeing mental health interventions
- Leading on how all staff support mental health and how students and parents are engaged
- Forging effective links with NHS mental health services

**Qualifications & Experience**
We would like to hear from you if you have:

- Understanding of relevant legislation and good practice within the realm of Mental Health Support Services
- To have an understanding of safeguarding in any setting
- Experience of working with young peopl
- A clear and good understanding of safeguarding issues, theory and practice, with particular regard to:

- refer cases of suspected abuse to the local authority children’s social care as required;
- support staff who make referrals to local authority children’s social care;
- refer cases to the Channel programme where there is a radicalisation concern as required;
- support staff who make referrals to the Channel programme;
- refer cases where a person is dismissed or left due to risk/harm to a child to the Disclosure and Barring Service as required; and
- refer cases where a crime may have been committed to the Police as required
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft software, with knowledge of using a management Information system for input and export of student data
- Knowledge of the range of agencies that work with students and their families. ;
- Training in child protection and safeguarding procedures
- Basic knowledge of first aid; eg. Emergency first aid
- Knowledge of many of the social issues facing students from disadvantaged backgrounds
- Good understanding of a range of welfare issues that may be affecting students and their families
