**About the Role**

The Rise Mentor leads a variety of young person development activities to mentor and support young people to reach their full potential. They are a trusted mentor, a problem solver and an expert in managing relationships, particularly between young people, businesses, social services, carers, families and employers.

**Role Responsibilities**

**Student Activities**:

- To create an atmosphere of trust & support by providing opportunities in which young people feel able to discuss their progress, insights, opinions, targets and are confident to self refer;
- To listen to young people and help them resolve a range of issues that are creating barriers to their learning;
- To discuss and help decide how identified needs will be addressed, working to identify existing and potential barriers to young peoples progress;
- To implement strategies and support RISE young people with personal development activities, planning relevant & appropriate support to help remove identified barriers that prevent pupils achieving their full potential;
- To draw up agreed action plans with young people, outlining the aims of the mentoring, and monitor their progress;
- To research, plan and deliver 1-2-1 mentoring sessions with RISE young people to support individual development;
- To help with transition activities for young people to move overcome barriers;
- During the opportunity placement, support as a mentor to set and offer the young person’s targets and work objectives whilst partnering closely with the workplace host;
- Support and care for the young person’s wellbeing during the opportunity placement, showing awareness of potential triggers, managing difficult situations and encouraging healthy work habits like taking breaks, structuring the day and asking for help.

**Safeguarding**:

- To monitor attendance and punctuality of young people;
- To maintain the health, safety, protection and well being of young people throughout the mentoring process;
- To ensure your Line Manager is informed immediately of any concerns in relation to the young people you mentor;
- To ensure the Safeguarding Officer is informed immediately of any concerns relating to safeguarding in relation to the young people you mentor;
- To promote young peoples’ equality, diversity, rights and encouraging responsibilities;
- To maintain appropriate professional boundaries in all contacts and support of young people and their families;
- To be fully aware of policies and procedures in maintaining regular contact with families/carers of children in need of support, keeping them informed of needs and progress, this will include developing knowledge of Child Protection procedures;
**Administration**:

- To maintain accurate records and prepare written reports and evaluations;
- To attend meetings and undertake duties as reasonably directed by your line manager.

**RISE Training and Development Activities**:

- To liaise with the RISE team keeping them well informed about their young people which you mentor, to achieve a shared understanding of the needs of young people;
- To network with other RISE mentors, teachers and relevant external agencies and professionals, such as educational psychologists, the police, social services and key workers;
- To develop knowledge and make the best use of the range of activities, courses, external agencies and individuals that might be used and drawn on to provide additional support young people;
- To plan and deliver a wide range of activities which promote learning, good behaviour, better social skills. well-being and personal development;
- To develop, identify & share strategies that have shown themselves to be effective in meeting the needs of young people in order to ensure consistency and continuity of practice and the maintenance of positive outcomes;
- To manage your own professional development through undertaking relevant training and sharing best practice with other RISE mentors;
- To attend relevant wider based training sessions as required or necessary.
