This is a fixed Darlington post as it is a front-line delivery role requiring access to physical casework files and processing documentation securely stored in Darlington as well as handling incoming and outgoing physical post to and from the Darlington office.

The friendly and supportive ICA Team is led by a Grade 7 and has 1 SEO (Senior Policy Advisor), 1 HEO (Casework Manager) and 3 EO caseworkers.

You will be expected to work out of the Darlington office for at least 3 days a week as a normal working pattern. Across the team there needs to be provision of a high-quality casework service covering Monday - Friday, including taking phone calls. This is to ensure that time critical tasks e.g. child matching and entry clearance checks are not delayed. We accommodate flexible working arrangements across the team around meeting this business need.

**Job description**:
This is a suitable role for a high performing person to work in an extremely interesting and rewarding front-line operational delivery environment.
- You will manage a portfolio of intercountry adoption casework and play a key role in finding new, loving, permanent families for vulnerable children from across the world.
- You will help ensure that important legal and safeguarding checks are completed and that adoptions are compliant with legislation.
- You will process casework in a professional, timely manner and help achieve the best outcomes for children and families.
- You will be playing a part in helping to deliver the government’s aims to safeguard and improve outcomes for vulnerable children.

Work on intercountry adoption can be fast paced and challenging at times. You will be dealing directly with prospective adopters, adoption agencies, other government departments and overseas authorities. The team will support you and provide training and induction and you can buddy up with an experienced caseworker on the team. There are also good developmental opportunities both within the team and the wider division.

The postholder’s key responsibilities will include:

- Having responsibility for processing a portfolio of intercountry adoption cases from receipt in the Department, through to the adoption being completed, in a timely manner within target period.
- Working effectively in partnership with UK Adoption Agencies, other government departments, the Devolved Administrations and overseas authorities, to correctly process a variety of adoption cases.
- Responding to correspondence received from, both written and telephone enquiries, from a broad spectrum of stakeholders (including prospective adopters, solicitors, notary publics, other government departments and UK adoption agencies) regarding the adoption process, in line with Departmental correspondence timescales and standards.
- Protecting personal information, on both casework and IT systems, in accordance with Departmental processes and guidelines.

**Person specification**:
This role would suit someone who wants the opportunity to use and develop a wide range of skills in a front-line operational delivery role.

- Excellent organisational skills with ability to plan and prioritise effectively to deliver at pace, including escalating issues as appropriate.
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, providing a high-quality customer service.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, responding flexibly to changing business demands and supporting colleagues.
- Robust attention to detail with ability to assess information against defined criteria and make effective decisions.

**Desirable criteria for the caseworker roles are**:

- Experience of working in a casework environment.
- Experience of working in a front-line customer service role.
