We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and enthusiastic professional to join our Health and Safety department as a Manual Handling Trainer/Advisor providing professional manual handling service and support to our service groups across SBUHB.
As a Manual Handling Trainer/Advisor at SBUHB you will work with the Manual Handling Strategic Advisor and the Health & Safety team.
The Corporate Health and Safety Team provide specialist manual handling advice to managers and staff working within Swansea Bay University Health Board.
The post will be based in Baglan, with hybrid working, to support the delivery of effective manual handling and assist teams in meeting their statutory responsibilities and health and safety needs.
You will be part of a team who are required to ensure compliance with statutory legislation.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
We are looking to recruit an appropriately qualified Manual Handling Trainer/Advisor who can demonstrate a wide range of experience and whose values align with that of the Health Board. We are looking for someone who can build and establish excellent working relationships, can develop, communicate, and execute plans, anticipate potential risk and develop new ways of achieving the same outcomes using competence, knowledge and partnerships.
The post holder will be responsible for assisting the Manual Handling Strategic Advisor in the development and delivery of manual handling training provided by the Health and Safety department. This includes foundation and update training across a wide range of manual handling areas including the All Wales Manual Handling Training Passport and Information Scheme
The post holder will be required to give advice to and support ward and departmental managers in the implementation of effective arrangements for the control of manual handling risks in the organisation.

The post holder will assist the Head of Health and Safety and Strategic Manual Handling Adviser in the development and implementation of a management system to reduce the risk of manual handling and ergonomic injuries to staff.
Promote Health board-wide safer handling practices for all staff
Required to act independently, accountable for actions & advice given, which will be specialist in nature and informed by leading expert opinion.
Provide basic or complex advice on interpretation of legislation and give detailed and complex explanation of how it applies to the broad range of service provision
Motivate and persuade WBIs, managers, nurses and others to improve and develop practice, including approved techniques and equipment for patients. This is often contentious, and differs from usual ‘custom and practice’
Work within the guidelines of the policies and procedures of the Health Board with regard to Manual Handling and Risk assessments
Develop and deliver training courses to all staff groups in manual handling practice including patient handling and inanimate load handling.
Develop, motivate and support the role of Manual Handling coaches, their managers, nurses and others to improve and develop practice, including approved techniques and equipment for patients
Plan and organize a schedule of support visits to wards and departments to review their standards of manual handling g practice and complete any necessary reports etc.
Advise and give direction to a wide variety of specialist assessments including individual patient manual handling procedures such as bariatric, paediatric and other patients or situation with particular handling needs Provide highly complex handling advice and practical support to initiate a bespoke plan of care where wards and departments have failed to meet the complex need of the patient. e.g. bariatric care, amputees, patients in moulded wheelchairs etc
Give unique specialist advice to specialists on individual patients or groups.
Via Risk Assessment make recommendations and or judgement on a broad range of specialties. Example
