Carmarthen, United Kingdom Carmarthenshire County Council Full time

Carmarthenshire County Council is a high performing, vibrant and forward-thinking local authority that is constantly seeking to improve and is committed to maintaining its excellent reputation for delivering first class services. We are now looking to appoint a Head of Law, Governance and Civil Services to help us deliver our ambition.

The Head of Law, Governance and Civil Services is a fantastic opportunity to join a Council that is looking to be innovative in how they deliver services that are designed to meet all residents needs at a unique time. We are looking for a modern, inspirational and inclusive leader that creates a positive environment where everyone can be themselves and can fulfil their potential.

At Carmarthenshire County Council, we focus on providing coherent, modern and effective services. So, as part of the one of the largest County Councils in Wales, you won’t just enjoy the scope of the challenge - you’ll enjoy having a positive impact.

Class-leading governance and a robust legal service underpin everything we do. This role is at the heart of our journey towards excellence, and you’ll be building on strong foundations. Leading an expert team, you’ll provide high quality and outcome-focused advice to the Chief Executive, CMT, Officers and Members. Moreover, you’ll run a complex division which delivers a number of key services to the Council, including discharging the duties of the Monitoring Officer.

We are building a strong legal and democratic function that will set the benchmark, but there’s still plenty to do, and you must understand how to continue and accelerate our improvement programme. An adept relationship builder and an exemplar of personal and professional integrity, you’ll rapidly gain the trust and respect of everyone you encounter - within and beyond the Council.

You will ideally ned a reasonable level of conversational Welsh and support can be provided on appointment to reach this level.

**Are you the right person for this job?**

If so, you will have considerable energy and drive, and have a proven track record of successful leadership and strategic management within a multi-functional organisation of comparable scope and complexity.
