**About Blackburn & Darwen Youth Zone**:
Blackburn & Darwen Youth Zone is a 21st century youth hub located at the heart of Blackburn and a dedicated site in Darwen, open to young people aged 5 to 25 years old, aiming to change the prospects offered to young people in the area. Our vision is to be at the heart of the community, collaborating to create a more cohesive and prosperous Blackburn and Darwen.

We are one of the leading youth organisations in Blackburn, with a membership of over 2,500 young people. We are open 7 days a week, 52 weeks of the year and offer over 40 different activities and opportunities in our open access youth club.

**Context of Role**:
Blackburn & Darwen Youth Zone is an iconic, state-of-the-art facility for young people in the heart of Blackburn which opened in June 2012.

We are looking for an experienced minibus driver to transport our young people between Youth Zone sites as well as taking them out on trips. If you are over 25 years old and have a clean drivers licence we love to hear from you.

This role requires a flexible working pattern and you will be expected to work evenings and occasional weekends. You will also be expected to travel to different venues/locations.

**Main Responsibilities**:

- To collect and return Blackburn and Darwen Youth Zone members on a designated route
- To manage the safe passage of Blackburn and Darwen Youth Zone members from school to the youth zone and ensuring members safety at all times.
- Manage the behaviour of Blackburn and Darwen Youth Zone members ensuring relevant rules are adhered to.
- To ensure the vehicle is roadworthy prior to each journey.
- Undertake other journeys that may from time may be requested for fixtures, trip or residentials.
- To make daily visual checks of the vehicle as described in the Driver’s notes.
- To report any accident or defect to the Facilities Manager
- To report inappropriate behaviour by pupils to the appropriate session lead.
- Observe health and safety procedures and work safely at all times;
- To be responsible for your own continuing self-development, undertaking training as appropriate to the working environment and location, and developments in your role;
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.
- To promote and communicate, with passion and belief, Blackburn Youth Zone’s Universal Youth Work offer to members.
- To develop and maintain professional and appropriate relationships with children and young people, offering young people a world class service.

**Measurable Outputs**:

- No complaints from parents regarding the service
- Increase in service uptake

**Person Specification**:
**Education/Training/Qualifications**
- Clean D1 driving licence, with a minimum of 2 years driving experience _(Desirable)_
- First Aid _(Desirable)_

**Experience**:

- Experience of driving a minibus _(Essential)_
- Experience of working with young people and behaviour management techniques _(Essential) _
- Excellent communication and problem solving skills. _(Essential) _
- Ability to work well on your own. _(Essential) _

**Knowledge**
- You will be required to have knowledge of the area you will be driving in and an understanding of the requirements of the passengers who use the service. _(Essential) _
- Ability to interact with young people. _(Essential) _

**Working hours**

This role will be offered as a zero hours contract with the hours of work changing on a weekly basis.

**Remuneration package**

**Salary**: £11.44 per hour

Holidays: 33 days inclusive of 8 Bank Holidays (prorated for part time staff)

Pension: Blackburn & Darwen Youth Zone operates a workplace pension scheme with Royal London for auto-enrolment purposes. You will contribute 5% of your gross earnings whilst the Youth Zone will contribute 3%. If you meet the criteria you will be auto-enrolled into the scheme within 3 months of commencement of your employment although you have the option to opt-out if you so wish.
