**Hours of work**: 37 hours per week
**Annual Leave**: 25 days plus 8 bank holidays and pension
**Salary**: £26,000 - £30,000

Purpose of Post We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to work with us to deliver our ground-breaking partnership project. Your role will be to support local young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to engage, sustain and achieve in education, health and mentoring. You will work with a range of people and staff members to facilitate the delivery of educational and meaningful workshops to the ethnic and wider community.

IMO Charity is an innovative and dynamic organisation that works in partnership with various organisations and local authorities, to deliver a range of impactful and progressive programs and initiatives throughout Blackburn with Darwen and East Lancashire. This project will be a collaborative approach and you will be working with Blackburn Youth Zone.

**What we are looking for**

You will need to use your passion for inspiring children to enjoy learning, encouraging them to take pride in their achievements, be confident in their abilities and play an active role in their sessions. Using a mix of resources to assist you broaden a young person’s understanding and develop innovative ways to provide a supportive learning environment, where young people can expand their knowledge.

Becoming a SEND Co-ordinator is an excellent opportunity to make a big difference in a young person’s education, to build upon your teaching support skills and to gain experience in a wide range of teaching methods, aids, and approaches.

Pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities are deemed to include:

- Pupils on the Schools Educational Needs Register.
- Pupils identified as being Gifted and Talented.
- Pupils with identified specific learning difficulties.
- Pupils with identified behavioural problems.

**Key Responsibilities**
- To maintain the ethos of the organisation by providing a caring, safe and supporting environment.
- Supporting the Lead and the organisation as a whole by implementing policy decisions and objectives.
- To ensure the young people play an active role in the IMO activities.
- To develop and maintain positive relationships with young people, by engaging and encouraging participation and involvement in the planned programmes.
- To be part of a team of workers that are able to identify the formal and informal educational, social, cultural and recreational needs of the young people.
- To plan a programme of positive and innovative interventions, that enhances the knowledge, awareness and the personal development of the young people.
- To develop relationships with young people that allows the development of one to one support recognising the different needs and starting points of the young people.
- To inform management of any personal concerns relating to the session, as well as being able to identify the personal needs of young people.
- To be part of a team that encourages the acquisition of accredited opportunities and encourages participation in other initiatives.
- To support young people in evaluating youth work activities and identifying the impact of youth work in their personal development.
- To articulate and record young people’s progression in sessional and project recording documentation and support senior staff in providing information for management and funding reports.
- To support the development of outreach and detached provision of the organisation, as well as the creation of external projects and activities.
- Carry out other duties for IMO Charity when asked upon.
- Work in a manner, which reflects the values of the organisation as shown in the IMO’s Constitution, policies and Strategic Plan.
- Act in accordance with the personnel policies and procedures as approved by the IMO board including Health and Safety Procedures.
- Carry out duties with due regard to the IMO Equal Opportunities Policy at all times.

**Person Specification**

**Qualifications**
- PGCE/Cert-Ed or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Subject specialism in SEND.
- 5 GCSE grades A-C including English Language.
- Level 1 or 2 in Youth Work.

**Experience**
- Experience and skills in teaching both groups and one-to-one in community settings.
- Experience of partnership working.
- Experience of creating learning resources.
- Experience of working effectively within safeguarding processes (internally and externally.)
- Experience of young people participation and delivering intervention programmes.
- Experience of working in partnership with and supporting young people with special educational needs.
- Working to targets and deadlines.
