About this role

Pennine Care have a big ambition that people with lived and living experience shaped every decision. The role of the Patient Stories volunteer will play a key role in helping us work towards achieving that ambition

This is a great role for individuals who are interested in meeting and supporting people from diverse backgrounds to share their experiences and have their voice heard. This role will could also help a volunteer to develop/enhance media interests or skills.

Aim of the role

With consent, capture experiences and stories of our service users and carers for sharing in, and/or beyond, the Trust to help inform service developments and learning.

**What the role involes**:

- Meeting with identified service users and carers to sensitively capture their experiences and stories about their life, engaging with services and how they think services can improve
- Using media software to edit stories for sharing in different forums i.e. meetings, training
- Ensuring service users and carers are involved in decisions about the content of recordings and where they can be shared

**The knowledge, skills and attributes required for the role**:

- Understanding / experience of supporting / and/or lived experience of a learning disability and/or mental health difficulties
- Understanding / experience of supporting / and/or lived experience of carers and the role they play in supporting people with a learning disability or mental health difficulty
- Valuing diversity and recognising how diverse communities and people may require different approaches to share their stories
- Good communication skills.
- IT and/or media skills
- Punctuality and reliability.

In addition to afree DBS check, the recruitment process for this role will includetwo relevant referencesand ahealth screen.

You will also undertake a training induction as well as on-going training which is essential to the role.

No previous experience is required for this role; a caring approach and good interpersonal skills are far more important.

Volunteer Recruitment

Please be aware that due to the robust process, recruitment can sometimes take a few weeks.

Throughout the process you will have informal meetings with us and the service where you will be volunteering. In addition to this we will require you to:

- Complete an identity (ID) check
- Complete a Disclosure and Barring Service* (DBS) check,
- Complete an Occupational health assessment
- Give details for two references
- Complete relevant training.
- Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

DBS checks for volunteers arefreeand the level of check is dependent on the role you are undertaking.
