**The Opportunity**:
We are looking for a person to work on the SCONe (Scottish Collaborative Optometry-Ophthalmology Network e-research) project. The post holder will develop and implement novel image analysis algorithms using computer programming expertise and machine learning techniques such as deep learning to detect and quantify small-vessel features, vascular abnormalities, signs of neurodegeneration, lesions and clusters thereof, in retinal images. This directly contributes to the larger project aim of identifying imaging biomarkers for conditions such as age-related macular degeneration. The post holder will contribute to the image measuring effort using software they develop and software previously built by our group as well as interact closely with the wider, multi-disciplinary research team working on the project.

SCONe is an exciting interdisciplinary project for the collection, curation and classification of retinal images and has the primary aim to investigate early-intermediate Age-related Macular Degeneration biomarkers and more widely, establish a world-leading retinal imaging biorepository

**Your skills and attributes for success**:

- An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in a field such as, for example, physics, engineering, mathematics or computing
- Experience in machine learning and image analysis for research, particularly working with retinal images
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Experience in clinical research and delivering projects including aspects such as study design, implementation and analysis
- Ability to communicate complex information clearly
