**Job Purpose**
The post-holder will make a leading contribution to a Cancer Research UK-funded project
_“Targeting metabolic reprogramming to develop more effective and less toxic treatments for central nervous system involvement in paediatric acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.”_ held by Professor Christina Halsey at the University of Glasgow.
This funding is for an exciting programme of work, which aims to transform our understanding of how leukaemia cells adapt to the CNS microenvironment and use this information to design new treatment approaches for children with leukaemia.
The job requires bioinformatic, database, and programming skills for this 3-year post. The overall objective is to interrogate transcriptomic, lipidomic and metabolomic datasets to allow identification of new potentially selective metabolic drug targets and response biomarkers to improve treatment of CNS leukaemia.
This is a prime opportunity to join a friendly, inclusive and highly-research active group in one of the UK’s top Universities. The post-holder will have the opportunity to contribute to the formulation and submission of research publications and research proposals/fellowships as well as help manage and direct this complex and challenging project, as opportunities allow.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
Perform the following activities in conjunction with and under the guidance of the Principal Investigator (PI):

- Assist and contribute to predetermined, prescribed or individual/joint research objectives, under supervision of the PI and in accordance with the project deliverables and project/group/School/ /College research strategy.
- Undertake analyses of a large volume of publicly available or in-house generated omic data.
- Contribute to the organisation, supervision, mentoring and training of undergraduate and/or postgraduate students and less experienced members of the project team to ensure their effective development.
- Develop and enhance your research profile and reputation and that of the University of Glasgow, School of Cancer Sciences, including contributing to publications of international quality in high profile/quality refereed journals, enhancing the research impact in terms of economic/societal benefit and gathering indicators of esteem.
- Document research output including analysis and interpretation of all data, maintaining records and databases, drafting technical/progress reports and papers as appropriate.
- Contribute to the presentation of work at international and national conferences, at internal and external seminars, colloquia and workshops to develop and enhance our research profile.
- Contribute to the identification of potential funding sources and assist in the development of proposals to secure funding from internal and external bodies to support future research.
- Collaborate with colleagues and participate in team/group meetings/seminars/workshops across the research Group/School/College/University and wider community (e.g. academic and industrial partners).
- Perform administrative tasks related to the activities of the research group and School, including budget and expenditure monitoring.
- Contribute to outreach and recruitment activities of the University of Glasgow.
- Carry out modest teaching activities (e.g. Undergraduate or Masters project supervision) and associated administration as assigned by the Head of School, or the PI.
- Be responsible for safety management related to the organisation and running of computing hardware and software and processes as appropriate
- Keep up to date with current knowledge and recent advances in the field/discipline.
- Engage in personal, professional and career development to enhance both specialist and transferable skills in accordance with desired career trajectory.
- Undertake any other duties of equivalent standing as assigned by the Head of School, Director of Research and/or PI.

**Knowledge/Qualifications**

**Essential**:

A1 SCQF Level 12 (PhD) or alternatively possess the equivalent in professional qualifications and experience, with experience of personal development in a similar or related role(s), specifically informatics, systems biology or biological science.
A2 Theoretical and practical knowledge in a computational/informatics related field.
A4 Extensive theoretical and practical knowledge of computational/informatics and software technologies

**Desirable**:

B1 Understanding of database mining and management.
B2. Understanding of Intellectual Property protection.
B3. Knowledge of machine learning/AI
