**Job summary**:
These Casework Officer roles are within the appeals service business area of The Planning Inspectorate. You would play a critical role in the processing of planning appeals concerning both new development proposals and appeals made against enforcement notices issued in respect of alleged breaches of planning control, making sure that the appeals are processed effectively and efficiently.
The work we do has a significant impact on people’s lives, communities and the economy and this is a fantastic opportunity to be part of that process. We deliver around 20,000 appeal cases each year. You would have the opportunity to gain experience and knowledge of the planning appeals service from the very start of the process right through to the final decisions, working closely with the customers, Inspectors and stakeholders along the way.
As well as managing your own caseload of appeals, you will also be working with your team and team leaders to ensure that we are able to deliver all our casework to quality, time, and cost expectations.
These roles can provide an excellent foundation for career progression in both The Planning Inspectorate and the wider Civil Service generally - our own Chief Executive Officer is testament to that having started his career at Administrative Officer (AO) level himself.
If you have excellent administration and communication skills and like to make a difference in a customer focussed role, then we have a job for you. We have both permanent and fixed term roles available.
The Planning Inspectorate has a long and proud history in ensuring a fair planning system for England. The work we do has a significant impact on people’s lives, the communities where they live and the economy.
We want our colleagues to be able to work more flexibly and more collaboratively, exploring new and innovative ways to improve the way we provide services.

You will be passionate about putting people at the heart of your work and making sure that we are delivering a high-quality and customer-focussed service. You should be someone who will support the drive for continuous improvement by constructively challenging processes, working flexibly, and being receptive to change.
