The National Decommissioning Centre (NDC) is looking to expand its current team with a Post-Doctoral Researcher in offshore energy Decarbonisation, Infrastructure Re-Use & Repurposing & Energy Transition. In this role you will be working with a team of researchers developing tools to quantify and reduce the emissions associated to decommissioning of offshore energy assets, and the possibility to re-use and re-purpose existing infrastructure. This will initially focus on specific regions of the North Sea, gathering and processing new data on emissions associated to the overall decommissioning process and incorporating it to different models. Areas will include (but will not be limited to) activities involved in wells plugging and abandonment, subsea infrastructure and topsides removal, transportation, material recycling and additional energy and personnel task requirements during decommissioning. You will also collaborate closely with staff, students, and external users developing the new models and running simulations of decommissioning and energy transition scenarios.

You will report to Dr Alf Martinez-Felipe, Prof. Astley Hastings and Prof. Richard Neilson, and you will work closely with Dr Alireza Maheri and Malcolm Stone. You will also work with the wider NDC team to assist in implementing your data on the Smart Energy Basin and the scoping and effective delivery of projects within it. You will interact extensively with industry and must have good interpersonal and communication skills as well as a high level of technical background in industrial operations, including mass and energy balances and materials science and technology. Ideally, you will have a PhD in engineering, preferentially with knowledge in environmental impact assessment; any experience or references to chemical, subsea, petroleum or energy engineering will be assessed positively. You should also be able to evidence working effectively in a multi-disciplinary team.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 6 scale (£35,333 - £42,155 per annum,), with placement according to qualifications and experience. The post is for three years in the first instance.
