We deliver high standards of care, protection and support to children and young people with learning disabilities and related complex needs by facilitating their physical, psychological, emotional and recreational development. The children we care for in ourhome vary in age and experience emotional and behavioural difficulties. As a Lead Practitioner you will assist the House Manager in managing the home effectively and efficiently whilst proactively and positively deliver a high-quality, therapeutic servicethat meets the needs of children and young people placed in your care. In the Absence of the House Manager, you will deputise for her/him.
Your new role
You'll play a key role in the smooth-running of the home, and you'll have a good grasp of legislation which underpins Looked After Children and young people and a strong knowledge of Safeguarding and Child Protection policies and protocols. You will work withour multi-disciplinary partners and colleagues to promote the health and wellbeing of both service users and colleagues alike and you will promote the Groups ethos & values.
Residential Care Provision
In the absence of the House Manager, you will deputise for her/him in the management of the house/home.
To work with children and young people in an inclusive, nurturing, and person-centred way, promoting their
best interests and needs at all times.
To work in a positive, respectful, and empowering way with all young people to promote good relationships and encourage achievement. To be responsible for promoting equal opportunities for all and for challenging any behaviour or practice which discriminatesagainst any young person or colleague on the grounds of race, religion, disability, age, gender, sexual orientation, or any other perceived difference. To ensure that children and young people are safeguarded while in The Community Connections groups careand ensure you always adhere to all local/national Safeguarding and Child Protection policies and protocols. Establish positive relationships with young people and always offering them unconditional and positive regard.
To set out and lead activities which are in the best interests and meet the needs of the children and young people.
Support and transport young people to and from activities, contact with families and other appointments.
Empowering young people and facilitating their active involvement in the decision making about their lives and future
To liaise and collaborate positively with parents and partner agencies to ensure that the best interests of the young people are always respected and promoted.
To ensure consistency, safety and stability is promoted through healthy routines and structure that encompass the needs of the children including hygiene, sleep, healthy eating, education, training and employment, safe limits, and boundaries.
Where and when required, in accordance with our policies, procedures and training engage in de-escalation techniques, and appropriate, proportionate physical intervention to keep children, young people and others safe from harm.
Provide pro-active, solution focused and positive leadership support and management to your team. To ensure that equality of opportunity exists in all employment practices, and that the recruitment, induction, probation, appraisal, and termination of any employmentis undertaken according to Human Resources policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Chair regular staff team meetings and ensure minutes are distributed within a timely manner.
Ensure staffing structures and rota's meet the requirements for the children and young people's needs.
As a Lead Practitioner you actively promote and ensure staff are supported and supervised in accordance with Polices & Procedures.
What you'll need to succeed
- Qualified to SVQ 4 Social Services (Children and Young People) SCQF Level 9.
- Registered with SSSC
- Previous experience of Office 365
- Full UK Driving License
- Any practice qualifications in the manager category.
Experience
- Experience of working in Residential Childcare settings
- Experience and knowledge of working with Care Inspectorate
- Experience of deputising for Home Manager
- Experience in developing care plans
- The ability to talk to large groups
- The ability to interact with children of all ages
- Budget Management skills
