We manage the relationships with key stakeholder groups including the media and Parliament, as well as providing a public enquires function. We work with a wide range of colleagues to develop and deliver the Bank's programme of outreach and education, which includes building strategic partnerships with other organisations and running the Bank's Museum.

We also develop and maintain our external website and social media presence and produce the Bank's flagship publications, including the Monetary Policy Report and Financial Stability Report.

The Press Office is managed by the Deputy Chief Press Officer, in collaboration with the Chief Press Officer, and comprises a number of press officers, each of which have immediate responsibility for a part of the Bank’s work. However, there is an integrated approach to the range of work undertaken by the team. The Press Office works closely with other teams in the Media & Stakeholder Relations Division, notably Parliamentary Affairs, Outreach & Education and Information Access - as well as teams across the Communications Directorate.

You will have the opportunity to help shape the Bank’s public communications, and take the lead on all aspects of communications on monetary policy.

This is a senior, front-line role that will be vital in helping shape the Bank’s reputation externally. The hours may be unpredictable but the job will be rewarding.

- Working closely with other teams across Communications to support the delivery of monetary policy messages to all audiences, ensuring the Bank is communicating clearly and effectively.
- Liaising with the Strategic Communications team to inform overall communication priorities.
- Advising on and formulating external responses and positions on monetary policy.
- Responsibility for the media engagement of specific members of the MPC, providing advice and guidance on press handling.
- Involvement in the preparation and launch of Bank publications, speeches and other public events.
- Attending MPC meetings to provide communications advice.
- Arranging and managing media briefings and interviews, including regional visits.
- Supporting colleagues across the team to deliver monetary policy messages.
- Participating in Press Office’s out-of-hours rota service, including handling media calls and media monitoring duties.

**Role Requirements**
- Substantial, extensive experience of communications work or an ability and willingness to deal with journalists robustly and fairly.
- Strong knowledge of the Bank’s monetary policy functions, and a good awareness and understanding of economics in order to be credible externally and internally.
- Proven track record in developing new ideas and initiatives; able to manage effective relationships with journalists and senior Bank personnel.
- An ability to express complex material in simple, direct terms that the maximum number of people can understand.
- An ability to use a wide variety of channels of communication, particularly digital and social media.
- Sound judgment with regard to the disclosure of information, and a strong sense of the issues and sensitivities facing the Bank.
- A willingness to get involved and support team members on a wide variety of issues as required, often at short notice.
- Confident, authoritative, team orientated and flexible.
- Strong oral and written communication skills - engaging, interactive and accessible.
