The Alternative Education Centre (AEC) is based on a farm setting on the Blackdown Hills.

Our students come from a range of educational provisions, from the ages of 11-23 years. Students who attend the AEC typically struggle or aren’t suited to mainstream education. They may display a variety of complex difficulties including behavioural concerns, aggression, emotional/mental health needs, learning difficulties, autism and ADHD.

We provide emotional support aiming to work on behavioural issues, boost self-esteem and confidence with the aspiration that they will be able reintegrate into their main schools, attend a college course or start an apprenticeship on completion of their time at the AEC.

We are currently looking to expand our current team and employ an Educational Practitioner (full time or part time). We are looking for a reliable person who can show both a strict and compassionate approach to education. You will need a sense of humour whilst also being able to remain calm in difficult situations.

Hours of work: Monday-Friday

**Daily tasks will include**:

- Working 1:1 with a student in their preferred area of interest
- Helping students work towards Entry Level units
- Liaising with the Head of Centre to see if any specific targets need to be achieved
- Liaising with our Site Manager to see if any repairs, maintenance or cleaning tasks need to be done once the students have left
- Completing a daily report for your student

**Essential Criteria**
- Be able to cope in difficult behavioural situations
- Be able to communicate well with both students and staff
- Have high levels of patience, understanding and compassion
- A desire to expand skills and knowledge through personal development and training

**Preferable Criteria**
- Knowledge of Mechanics
- Experience working on site or in a trade
- Driving Licence
- Experience working with children
- Knowledge of Behaviour Management
