**Library Manager / Senior Librarian**who is an experienced library professional and has the ability to lead and motivate a team of staff with excellent customer facing and communication skills is required for a category C men’s prison in Norfolk,East Anglia.

**SALARY**:£26,469 per annum + Generous Benefits (see below)

**WORKING HOURS**:37 Hours per Week, include weekend working when required

**JOB OVERVIEW**

Working as the Library Manager / Senior Librarian you will provide leadership and direction to the prison library team, ensuring that residents are at the centre of the services delivered by the library.

As the Library Manager / Senior Librarian you will also develop good working relationships with the prison and other partners.

**DUTIES**

As the Library Manager / Senior Librarian you duties include:

- Be a key player in the Prison's 'reducing re-offending' agenda by leading the literacy, reading, learning and information provision in the library
- Lead manage and motivate a team of staff
- Manage recruitment, induction, training, development and performance of staff
- Participate as a member of the libraries front line management team
- Work flexibly to support delivery across the service, including providing evening and weekend cover as required
- Work with the prison authorities to positively maintain relationships with the populations the library serves
- Be the welcoming figurehead of the library and welcome and engage with staff and residents to promote library activities
- Work with partners to maintain an up-to-date profile, stock content and promotional displays to reflect the prison population
- Participate in all library routines associated with the delivery of frontline prison library services including floor walking, shelving, stock management, customer service and enquiry desks
- Manage the library budget
- Take overall responsibility for managing the physical condition, compliance and security of the library
- Ensure the library looks tidy, attractive and inviting at all times
- Work with staff, volunteers and partners to provide an engaging and relevant programme of aspirational and entertaining events
- Develop the usage of library services to residents including non-literate and other additional needs groups

**CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS**
- Is an experienced library professional who has a deep understanding of the important role of libraries in society
- Has the ability to lead, manage and motivate a team of staff and orderlies to provide a customer focused and responsive service
- Has excellent interpersonal and communication skills, who is friendly and approachable with a confident manner and the ability to remain vigilant
- Is proactive and able to promote innovative ideas that will make the library relevant and increase the use of the prison library offer
- Is IT literate and competent in the use of computer packages, including a library management system, to provide a range of services to residents
- Will use time at work effectively to achieve goals individually and with the team through exceptional time management and organisational skills
- Has sufficient emotional resilience to work in what can be a challenging but highly rewarding environment
