The successful candidate will be expected to work at the Registrar level, supporting Junior trainee colleagues and will also provide on call Surgical cover during the day/night when on call. Nevertheless expected to make independent surgical decisions.
The successful appointee will be assisting with the day to day running of the wards, assisting and performing in theatre sessions, Out Patient clinics and arranging admission and discharges under Consultant supervision. A ward round will be conducted each morning with junior staff, which will incorporate the management of Surgical emergencies admitted the previous night under the General Surgeons, as well as incumbent patients.
Continue to develop in General Surgery taking part in middle grade full shift surgical rota.
The appointee will undertake the routine and emergency care of Surgical patients. The post will give plenty of opportunities for learning Advanced Surgical procedures.
We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Specialty Doctor in General Surgery to join our friendly and enthusiastic surgery team at the James Paget University Hospital, located on the Norfolk coast within walking distance of long sandy beaches and close to the beautiful Norfolk Broads.
Applications are invited from Doctors who would like to continue their general professional training at the above modern District General Hospital. There is an excellent purpose built training and education centre on site at the James Paget University Hospital along with a newly refurbished library and learning caf area.
All applicants will be required to demonstrate a working knowledge of the English language.

The Hospital is based in the coastal town of Gorleston between the resorts of Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft. There is a good supply of high quality housing at reasonable prices from barn conversions and historic houses to architect designed modern builds. There is a good choice of locations from rural and village to coastal and town. There are many high quality state and private schools from Nursery through to 6th form colleges and the UEA. There are a variety of local industries including agriculture, leisure and tourism including sailing, offshore industries, insurance and catering.

A flexible attitude to adjusting to changes within the department will be necessary. The appointee will be given the opportunity to receive further training in his/her own special interest.
Experience in General Surgery
Ability to organise and prioritise clinical needs with awareness of own limitations and the ability to know when to consult senior advice.
Academic Achievements
Involvement in research projects and published papers
Computer literate
Experience in teaching junior medical staff
Formal training in teaching skills
Experience of teaching medical students
Commitment to personal and professional development
Awareness and respect for colleagues, patients and relatives' dignity, privacy, integrity, cultural and religious beliefs
Understands the principles of patient confidentiality and data protection
Full immunisation status in accordance with Occupational Health
Satisfactory Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure and/or Certificate of Good Conduct (Police Check) from country of residence
